Bilstein 6112 front, 5100's rear with blocks, camburg UCA, 17" XD's with 285/70/17 AT 3's and a blackout front grille.
Truck- 2016 Off Road long bed with 6112's set at 4th notch so about 2.5 inches of lift.

Problem- Got bad info and bought wheels that are making my 265/70/17 tires rub. 17x9 KMC wheels with -12 offset and 4.5 back spacing are the culprits.

Want to know what wheels I can get that will alleviate the rubbing situation. I am under the assumption that I should just get 17x9 wheels with 0 offset so the tires I have will fit better.

Wondering what brands people like and what offset everyone else uses that work well. Next time i buy tires i'm going to 285's so with that in mind, what wheels can I get?

Question. Where are you rubbing? That size can be ran stock height, so it's very odd you're rubbing at 2.5 lift.

SCS wheels are functional and look great, I'm running them with my 285's and they're awesome.

20160911_121313.jpg I had these KMC Rockstar 17x9 with 285/70/17 Duratracs rubbed . did a cmc and still rubbed very frustrating cause I have the icon stage 3 lift cranked up as high as they recommend.
Switched to these icon wheels 17x8.5 problem solved.20160920_190916.jpg Icon claims these are made specific fort the Tacoma with proper back spacing and clearance for the calipers.

    Where do you rub?

    Outside of the tires?
My figures say you're outside rim edge sits out 2.5" further than stock. This increases the scrub radius and steering arc of the wheel/tire. Too much negative offset and/or too wide a wheel/tire.

    UCA/spindle?
Lifting will bring the suspension components closer to the wheel/tire.
    Not enough negative offset.

285s? 99% chance you'll have to cut or trim something.

Assuming you stick with 9" wide; I'd say:
Wiith 265s you could go with a little less negative offset.
With 285s you'll be good with what you have, as long as you have about 1/2" of usable tire/wheel to spindle/uca clearance.

This. @Humboldt_Homie where are you rubbing?

My guess would be near the cab mount or front fender liner. Why? Because you have 9" wide rims and more negative offset (about an inch over stock).

Tire size is only part of the equation. With a lift, things get even more murky because your alignment specs have changed more over stock (do you have enough caster?). Your best bet is to get more narrow wheels and make sure your alignment numbers make sense. There's no reason a stock size tire should rub with a lift otherwise.

Upgraded to Camburg UCA's. They are rubbing on the cab mount at about 80% turn of the wheel, if the ground is level then it won't rub but its really annoying. I did have to take the front mud guard off and trim underneath a little bit.

I initially had them put 285's on but they stuck out way to far and rubbed on the wheel well so they went down to 265's.

So if I stick with 9 inch wide tires I just need less offset? Forgive me for being so novice but can 265 tires fit on a 8.5 wide rim?

80% turn of the wheel on uneven ground on the cab mount. Looks like I could chop it but when I go up to 285's i'd be in the same shitty situation. :bananadead:

Caster looks great with the Camburg UCAs.

Your wheels are the issue. 8" or 8.5" wheels with similar to 0 offset will be fine for that size tire. If you eventually plan to go to 285s the higher negative offset will help keep you from rubbing UCAs but you're in for cab mount chops, trimming or hammering.

Those look nice. I'm not a fan of the fake metal things around the outside look though. I see going from 285 on a 9 inch rim to 8.5 is no big deal, but can the same be done with 265 on 9 to 8.5?

Thanks for all your input everyone!

Though I don't know specifically what tires you are running, 9" wide rims are wider than some manufacturer recommendations for a 265/70/17 tire. 8.5" wheels tend to be within spec. They're also within spec for 285/70 tires.

Your shop should have at least warned you of that before install.

This is only somewhat relevant to your issue but according to Cooper, the approved rim width for the 265/70/17 AT3s are 7-8.5".

The short answer is that the 9" wide rims along with the offset are causing you to rub. Go to a smaller width. -12 offset will likely be fine.

No. That's the TForce Edition wheel, part of a port-installed accessory package offered by Gulf States Toyota dealers.

Tesla runs the BMW 5-lug pattern last time I checked.

Yes, those 265s will fit on a 8.5"
The allowable rim width range for that tire is 7"-8.5".
Be aware, the measured rim width for that 265 is 8"; this is the rim width used to calculate psi, section width, tread width, etc.

This calculator is really helpful; just remember, when messing with offset, you are lifted and might require a little more clearance on the inside for the new suspension geometry. Did a few for you...decreasing width helps a lot.
