That sucks man. Sometimes the dealer is so dumb. They might as well just be honest and say they cannot find the problem.

Seriously. It's like I have to just wait for something to completely break/fail before they can pinpoint a problem.

I agree and I was letting it slide at first post-lift because it was just an occasional 'clunk' going over certain sized bumps, I've read a million 'clunking' threads on TW to know that some noises are just part of the game. But this weekend at Big Bear it turned into more of a 'snap crackle pop' over every little bump, it's gotten considerably worse over one pretty gnarly trail (Gold Mountain) which is why I'm concerned. On pavement it's not nearly as bad but I'm more concerned with something leaving me stranded off-road.

I should mention too that when we did Gold Mountain a couple weeks before (and MJT not long before that) it wasn't making any of those sounds.

I don't know if i agree that it's your suspension causing the issue?. I mean ya stuff can fail even new out the box but as you know as well Ryan, hundreds of guys run your same set-up with no "clunking sounds" that gets worse over time.

I get so much more piece of mind wrenching on my own truck then hoping and depending on the kid at the stealership is caring enough to really take care of my rig. It's intimidating at first but with research, some good tools, a manual and advice on tw, you can accomplish a lot on your own. Most of its just nuts and bolts. This way you learn all the ends and outs of your rig and what should be making noise or a least tolerable and what shouldn't. I can get to see first hand how certain parts operate and what a failed part looks like.

Just giving info from my personal experience and everyone's is obviously not the same. Hope you get it figured out for sure though. Do you know if your ball joints where ever replaced under the 1st Gen recall?

Years ago I took my first Toyota truck to the dealership as they gave me a few free oil changes. When I got home all the oil had leaked out all over my driveway! I looked under the truck and the drain plug and two shop rags where sitting on my skid plate .....that was the last time I went to the dealership for "service".

Ha, yeah I'm familiar with shotty shop work too. Still dealing with the aftermath of the backwards clutch fiasco (getting reimbursed). That wasn't Toyota though.

I checked up on the ball joint recall to see if my truck had it done or qualified for it, but it was only for a specific run of them made within a certain time frame and mine was excluded.

We did Clarks and Gold Mountain."Golden Showers" somebody brought that up Sat night.lol. No idea why but it was funny.

Gold Mountain was a great trail. Had some nice challenges. The rock garden at the end was so cool. I'll run it again whenever you want. Bummer we didn't get to BS on Sat night. Props to you, @Spencer , and the others for doing the recovery. You guys are awesome.

Gotta love how the recalls are only specific trucks of the same model year :annoyed:

Dude we need to do Miller Jeep soon before they close up in November for the winter, if you liked Gold Mountain you'll really like MJT. I know @anthony250f really wants to do it as well. About as challenging but longer.

That whole recall over the lower ball joints was because a certain run of them were compromised by having been potentially scratched by a poorly calibrated machine if I remember correctly, they caught it and fixed it but during that time period those trucks got the recall.
