Anyone who had an older dog I want to know something. When they reach the end and start becoming less interested in everything they use to like did they stop showing affection like wagging their tail and stuff? Our dog never wags anymore but she loves being around people and whines and barks when you leave. She still greets you at the door and stuff but no tail wag anymore. She is also on a low low dose of prednisone to control her ibs she developed so ibwas thinking that was the cause too. She's been on it for about a year now and when it was started high she had bad side effects but they went away when it dropped to a very low dose over the months.

Kind of hard to answer not knowing anything about your dog. Age, breed, temperament, physical fitness ... I had a 15 yr old CBR and about the only thing he lost interest in was food. He wagged his tail till the very end, was it straight out and moving with speed, nope, just a gentle swish. Could she have gotten hurt to cause her pain when she wags her tail? Probably should talk to you Vet about it

I have an older yellow lab, her tail won't stop wagging unless A) they are scared of something, or B) they are dead.

    Some really cool shit
That prednisone is some nasty ass shit. I had a Chesapeake that acquired an autoimmune disease called Masticatory muscle myositis (MMM). Prescribed prednisone. Big dose, then weened off after a few months. I have no actual evidence, but I believe it is why he passed away of heart failure at only 9 1/2 years of age. He was in good shape. The drugs beat back the disease o.k., and saved his life. But I think it played hard on his heart. My mom had rheumatoid arthritis real bad. She took prednisone, as well. Heart failure.

As for the tail waging; My current Chessie is sick (kennel cough) right now, but it does not stop the tail wag. A little less vocal, but that's coming back as he recovers. He's 11 1/2 years young.

This is a picture of them both before Jake passed away 5 years ago. He's on the left. You can see how the MMM attacked his jaw muscles. His head lost some of the squared shape Chessies are known for.

Ya shes weaned off to about 6-7% of the initial dose now. Just enough to mimic the actual amount her body produces, which now she doesnt because she took it so long. When she weaned lower then 6-7% she got really really bad so because shes old (15 now) we just keep her on it because its all about quality of life for her and not really the long term because she really wont be around too much longer. The tail wagging is weird though. Its like she looks depressed but she doesnt act it. She still greets you and stuff and cares but its weird. Doing good for now though so we let her be. She eats like a complete beast too

Also she needed it because she developed IMT which is similar to MMM just attacked her platelets and she was as close to death as possible until she took it

Hello Don5352, I had two chessies that both died of pulmonary disease. Here's a pic of them, Ally is the smaller one and Breaker, her son, is the larger one. They both lived 11 years. Neither had any other health issues and passed soon after we noticed the symptoms. As I'm sure you know, nothing was going to harm my son when they were around. I also added a pic of my current chessie, Hiccup looks allot like your two
