Blown tire offroading

Well today didn't go exactly as planned. I went out mudding with some friends and had a blast. At the very end I ended up getting stuck, but it was my own fault trying to do something I know I couldn't with the dunlops. But its all good friends pulled me out and all was well. But when I got down the road to the car wash the tire pressure light was on. By the time I was home the back tire was flat. Something slashed the side wall.

My first question is it ok to have a worn and new tire on the back and second the dealer is the only place I can find dunlops. Any ideas. Also could I get some A/Ts just on the back or is that tacky.

 

Well, it is your call on what you want to do, I just wouldnt waste money on dunlops, but if it is all you can afford then get 1. But I would save my money to change the tires out. And I would say that having different tires on the back is only ok if it is a rusted 1970 Chevy pick up

 

Thats what I was thinking. I hate to spend the money on a POS dunlop. But I need it and don't know if I can justify $600 for something I have never needed until today. Normally if I pick the right line the dunlops do all right.

 

You should be alright, only concern would be if you have an LSD. Different diameter tires with an LSD is no good. I blew out 2 of the rugged fails a couple years back and had to bite the bullet and buy some new tires. It hurts the wallet but feels so much better everywhere else!

 

Ya, they almost totalled my truck offroading so I dont like or trust those things one bit. But if that is all you can afford than thats what you gotta do

 

The stock dunlops were 130$ from Sam's club. And if I were you, I take the spare and use that till I could get new tires.

 

Goodyear Duratracs, get the set now and then you wont have to worry.

 

there are a lot of better tires out there for the same price as the dunlopes. i would get something else

 

So many options. I really would like to just transfer the spare over and buy a shitty tire for spare. HHHMMM. Maybe I should start saving.

Call around town at tire shops...Sometimes you can find used tires for sale that you can use for a spare.

I bought a used 32" used tire for my 96 tacoma (as a spare) - cost me like $5 for the tire and about $10 to have it balanced/mounted. For my jeep, I got a used 33" tire used for like $10 and another $10 to have it mounted/balanced.

 

Go to walmart and pick up some goodyear authorties $165 a pop.
