    My current daily drive is a '98 4Runner 4x4 auto with a 3.4 V6.

I'm curious if a new Taco 4x4 Access cab with a 2.7 and manual would feel comparable or totally gutless.

    It'd feel gutlessly comparable

On second thought, the 2.7 will be slow but more fun due to manual, while the 3.4 will be less slow but slightly more lame due to autotragic

Gutless, 3rd Gen weighs a little over 4k Lbs, this is not an assumption, I test drove one extensively before buying my 3rd Gen

It's that bad even with the 5spd?

It's almost bad enough with the V6, I can't even imagine a 4 cylinder in this truck.

You'd probably even have old VW buses overtaking you.

I went from a 2002 4runner V6 AT to a 2017 Taco V6 AT. I've been quite happy with the change and the Taco feels pretty comparable.

From that I wouldn't want to drop down to a 4-banger on the Tacoma.

I've never driven a 98 4Runner, but I am happy with the power my 2.7 manual 4x4 has.

Test drive one, don't let the forums steer you one direction or the other.

Looks like I'm going to have to go find a 2.7 5spd 4x4 to go test drive!

The key is the manual though. If the 3.4 is also manual then more power is more better :mudding:

    OP

Test drive a 2.7 and then the 3.5 and you will have all the info that you need, I feel quite sure you will see exactly what I saw.

    Best of luck

More better - I knew I heard that somewhere before lol. One of my favorite lines of all time (first thing said in the vid):
