My husband and I have had our homepage for 9 years. It's cheap and we have a lot of available space..yadda yadda yadda. Our hosting company has been pretty good ...until they decided to upgrade/move our site to another server. That's when the headaches began.

The host changed the folder structure - which I had to download to my home computer to capture the structure (no big deal, just frustrating).

We have a Coppermine 1.4.1 version photo gallery that we've installed off the host control panel. It's been great up until this server upgrade. First *work ticket* has to resolve the larger images weren't loading. They fixed that. Then....tried to batch-add files....and that doesn't work. Believe me...it's nothing we did. We've been using the same batch-add process for years and haven't made any changes to the database settings. The only thing it can be...is because they moved the site to another location and changed things around. Upgrading to the 1.4.25 will be a frigin headache - atleast, nobody at Aplus can give me any clues on how it'll react with the current gallery.

Sooo....I'd love to ditch the whole idea of downloading the databases from their control panel and do this separately with our own programs (if I can).
Unfortunately....I'm clueless in where to begin.

I don't mind buying a program that'll easily handle our gallery (8000+ photos).

Any thoughts, suggestions? We have plenty of hosting space...just would like a program system to operate a gallery with. WE only pay $10 a month for our site and they're probably giving us the run-around because of it.

Remember...put this in Grammer School talk. Cuz I'm dumb thumbs right now.
    Thanks!

off the top of my head, the most common issue if it's not with the database itself (I couldn't imagine the host actually changing anything in the db) would be directory permissions. might be the reason you're having trouble with batch uploads, etc. but i'm saying this without knowing any details of your issue. you might have some directories that need to be writable not marked as such.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
OK, I have a background in database programming.. but am unclear what is creating your issue specifically..

Coppermine is a very impressive and widely used software for photos. It relies an MySQL to provide the database it uses.

It sounds like you are having a database related problem and probably is something simple, and probably a setting in Coppermine related to the MySQL database where all the pictures are tracked. Or, as was stated already in this thread it could be a UNIX filesystem permissions issue with the files and/or folders on the hosting server?

My advise is to contact a local community college and see if a Web Development student would like to take on fixing it for $100. If you have ftp and SSH access to your hosting account that is.. if you only have a web panel access then you are probably limited to dealing with the company that is hosting it.

I used to work for an ISP for some time and can agree that if you're paying them $10/month then they really are not going to put a programmer on your issue.

    Best wishes finding as solution.

I understand... and I've looked in the configuration/admin areas and changed some things to play with it (and the permissions) but nothing has helped.

The weird thing.... It'll 'accept' the first upload (if I've attempted to batch-add 3 files). It creates the thumbnails & intermediate pictures for all three.
It'll take the thumbnail of the one it 'accepted' (so to speak) and inputs itself into other albums that I never directed it to be in.

Look in this album...the same thumbnail shows up many times.
    http://www.lieblweb.com/cpg/index.php?cat=23
For every catagory, you'll find that same thumnail somewhere in every catagory.

If you go back and delete the original file (via admin), all those thumbnails disappear and the original thumnails come back.

We have ftp access....just not sure what SSH is or how the whole Coppermine thing is setup through the host. It was downloaded through their contol panel. We have version 1.4.1.

They have 1.4.25 available to download. However - nobody at the host can answer my questions in relation to the newer version. I've been told I can't upgrade the current gallery but have to start all over again with the new one. And if I started all over ....would the batch add work on the new one?
(the thought of re-doing our gallery with 8000+ pictures is a nightmare)

I think the web developer idea would be worth persueing - atleast to grab a new Coppermine and set it up outside of Aplus. I suck at this stuff.

setting it up outside of the webhosting control panel would be the best bet. also, I can assure you that you can upgrade coppermine versions without having to redo the gallery. you should ask your webhost if you do have ssh access...it'll make things easier for who ever jumps into your server to fix it.

    Thanks Bob!
This is gonna be interesting just trying to ask someone about SSH access. The amount of calls, chats, e-mails that I've already had with my host.....

It's amazing what will happen when you raise a little HELL.

Needless to say, I boasted my 'attitude' :D on their forum and it got noticed.

My husband sent me an e-mail at work this evening. He'd been testing it out and it looks like its fixed. I'll have to play with it when I get home.

Imagine that? And it took less than a day from the time I bitched to the time they fixed it.

We still have to investigate how to upgrade it to the newer version. I'm really hoping it's fixed and nothing else pops up. Going on vacation and I'm gonna have lots of pictures to upload!!!

    Thanks Bob for help!!!
