yeah imo, go for the ps3. its more economically sound. you want something that you can get more with your money. you get a game station, a movie center and access to the internet. its totally worth it.

I bought the PS3 and one of the reasons i did was because it could play Blu-Ray......If you have just a regular dvd player and you play it on your 1080p TV you will just be watching in most likely 720p.Blu-ray puts out 1080p.TV is 1080p....picture is 1080p. I love my PS3. Wii suxs.

I would wait and get the WII instead
Waiting till it is the standard that will stay may be the smart thing.
DVD will not look bad on your TV just not quite as good as Blueray yet.
besides the dig or high def cable is what most people watch most the time anyways

First of all I want to thank everybody for their input, it's much appreciated. I hate upgrading A/V stuff.

Imrubicon, your idea is the route that I'm gonna take. Gotta keep the wife happy. Can't get head from an angry wife, if ya know what I mean:D

There are alot of Blu-ray movies available. Blockbuster & Netflix carry a huge selection of movies. Now that HD-DVD is dead. All the film studios are putting there movies on Blu-ray.

And Blu-ray is that good. If you are into the best quality movie viewing experience. If you are just sitting at home in front of an analog tv, then no you won't see the blu-ray at its potential. But for Klown with a 1080p tv, he will experience the incredible picture.

I don't think you even get 720p. When I watch regular dvds, it shows 480p on my tv as the best it can do. Like you, when I watch Blu-ray it is 1080p. I love my PS3 also.

Yes the cables are very pricey if you buy them at stores like "worst buy & circuit shitty". Best place to get great deals on cables, is online.

    I bought mine at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=2317

Also I have my PC hooked through my 46" LCD TV, with wireless keyboard & mouse.

Hey klown, I hear the playstation plays CDs now, that's gotta be sweet!:D

I don't know diddly $hit about bluray.....If you're gonna get it, get a PS3. I have a PS3 and a Wii, the Wii's pretty cool and the cheapest of the 3 game systems. I have a 31" sanyo, it's color and I can see it from across the room, but it's not really up to par with current technology. Fuk-it! Go all out and get a reel to reel!

+1 on up converting. I bought the Playstaytion 3, and can barely tell the difference between regurlar DVD's and Blue Ray. HD on the other hand is a big diff when watching cable TV, ie... UFC fights in HD is so worth the extra $5 to order. You can see the sweat and blood so vividly. '

But yeah, I got all three systems, Wii, 360, and PS3, my kids are spoiled, but that PS3 has improved my home theater and gaming way of life all in one. You wont get that from Wii or 360.

Oh, and the cheaper Blueray players out there do not compete with the PS3, in comparison to the 800 plus models. Just IMO...

As far as being worth the money, depends on your taste. If you like unbelievable clarity and amazing sound, get blu-ray. If you don't care, don't.

I was the same way about having a huge collection of DVD's but wanting HD. I bought the Oppo 981-hd and the upconversion to 1080P is outstanding. However, like sombody said, 1080P is really noticable at larger screen sizes.

If you were to decide you wanted to try Blu-Ray, go with the PS3. The quality is actually very good. Even cnet ranks it as the best Blu Ray on the market, minus the nit-picky thing that article points out.

One thing for sure is that HD-DVD is NOT the way to go. Don't be fooled by these cheap players. In the long run, it's a waste of money

Damn, now I can't find a WII. When you can find then, they are in stupid azz bundles with a bunch of shiot that I don't want. WTF, this sucks! There is a site called Wiitracker that tells you where wii's are sold. But I can't get to the site from work.

I've got the PS3 and a Sony Bravia 52" 1080P 120Hz LCD HDTV. This, in my opinion (except for the size, could be bigger), is really the ultimate setup. The 120Hz "MotionFlow" really gives the screen that 3D depth that you want. There is a very perceptible difference between your standard 60Hz screen and the 120Hz screen. And of course the Blue Ray video resolution is simply amazing.
