Recent weekend carnage.

Debating on doing synthetic oil change or stick with dino. 190K miles.

 

My bumper skidded against a tree. And my rear had a boulder hitched between the leaf spring shackle and the trailer hitch. Not ideal in pitch black lol.

 

Time for a wrap around rear.

 

Yes sir. High clearance to be exact.

 

6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. If you have normal and not extreme change intervals it will make zero difference. I change my dino oil out every 4200mi and it comes out nice and clean, haven't had a Blackstone test in a long time but last time it was all bueno.

 

I do 5K intervals
90% highway. 10% city.

At 5,000 mile interval, DINO is still nice and golden.

 

No need for a high clearance rear bumper on our trucks unless you really just like the look. A wrap around bumper will hide that corner damage just fine.

 

It's probably not worth the extra cost for full synthetic and a synthetic rated filter then. Send an oil sample to Blackstone labs and see what they say, if the Dino oil your buying has a good additive package and doesn't shear down too easily you may be able to run it longer and they'll tell you that.

I disagree.

If you say high clearance isn't needed on a 1st gen you need to wheel harder trails.

My bedsides would be destroyed without it, nor would I trust a wrap around or be satisfied knowing it's an area you can gain clearance easily and hit often.

 

I don't think it's nessiscary. The frame is lower and shackles are lower. You'll hit the bed sides regaurdless or shackle and frame first.

No point in cutting them. Wrap around is plenty strong or just a guard tube under it.

 

The frame is not lower, and is also a foot inboard of the bedsides. What if you hit something from the side, and not down vertically? Frame won't help you there. I cut off quite a bit and the sides of my bumper are even with the frame.

I'm not saying it's the way to go for most on here, but if you do any amount of serious wheeling and want the best clearance, cut the bedsides off, they're doing nothing for you.

 

I'm not even wheelin that hard and mine get beat up...stupid people in parking lots that dont know how to back out of a spot have hit my lower bedsides plenty of times for instance. I'm planning on trimming mine for the wrap-around bumper eventually too, but I agree it ain't for everyone

 

so whats the verdict on rear bumpers? I dont wheel hard enough, well havnt been true wheeling yet

 

Prerunners need hc bumpers, but 4x4s are good with wrap arounds

 

put a set of bilstien 5100's set at 1.25'' and new OEM springs on the front today!
and laughed at the "bro lean" because my front end sits at 5 1/2 inches above the sagging rear for the next 2 weeks till I get my deavers...

ate some wheelers candy .
