Wow for a 4 year old truck? Couldn't you have ordered a DCLB 2017 for less, given they are going for $1800-2500$ under MSRP?

Sure they are going for $1800-2500$ under MSRP because they suck.

I didn't like the new one at all, I didn't think all my parts would fit on it, and I wasn't going to order one and wait weeks without a truck.

I could have waited and saved money. Instead I spent money and found what I wanted in half a day.

Sounds like you know it was expensive. And you are ok with that. So congrats! Enjoy your new truck.

    I simply didn't want to dic# around.
    It was what I wanted.
    I had the dough.
They got me in and out in record time.

    Simple as that.

BTW, the dealer I bought it from is freakin huge. Chevy, Caddy, GM, Toyota, Scion, etc. I didn't want to go there but the local guys had nothing for me. The seller is somewhat notorious locally, probably just because they are the biggest.

Anyhow this wasn't intended to be bout he money (boring) but about the truck itself.

It's different than the '09 in subtle ways, and that I did want to post.

    For instance:
Subtle difference #1.....the 4-leaf rear springs.

The '09 had 3-leafs. They sucked by comparison, which is why I ran the air bags.
The new one has 4-leafs, plus my 1 year old air bags.

BUT, I don't know if they are original 2012, or TSB replacements/recall replacements.
They look pretty new, but the whole truck does too.

If you think cars are expensive out here, you guys should see what we Californians have to pay for auto insurance.

31 years old, no accidents, 1 speeding ticket in 3 years and the cheapest full coverage I could get was $125/month with a $1000 deductible through Esurance. I researched what the equivalent would be if I lived in Missouri (where I was born) and it would be less than half what I'm paying monthly here. It's expensive as hell to live out here /endrant.

Interesting. I ended up buying my slightly used (4K miles) in WA instead of the Southwest because I couldn't find one here that was exactly what I wanted and at the right price. Also, I had a short time frame as I was in a similar situation as the OP. Once insurance settled they'd stop paying for my rental. I figured buying what you want/need was better than losing money on a get-by vehicle or a rental until you find the right one at the right price.

However, unlike the OP I went out of state to make the purchase, and saved some bucks.

    Keep shopping....

Live in Bay Area, clean record, full coverage with $500 deductible. $800/year with Geico.

Geico was the worst one, and my brother works for them as an adjuster. Even with the discount he could get me it was more expensive than e-surance.

Maybe it's a Los Angeles/SoCal thing, then again I'd imagine the bay area would be just as expensive if not more so. Strange indeed.

I've been with them for 15+ years, I wonder if that has something to do with it

I know that 4wd is more expensive to insure than 2wd so that's probably got a little something to do with it, shouldn't account for that much but might explain some.

Well the insurance is so expensive in california because it's mandated by law, but about 1/3 of the people are uninsured here (most of the illegals driving around are uninsured in the US.)
Of the 2/3 that are insured half those are underinsured.
You do not want a cut-rate insurance company if you live here.

    from the LA times, 2-8-2016:

"An estimated 605,000 licenses were issued under the law last year [to illegals] accounting for nearly half of all new licenses, according to the California DMV. Nearly 400,000 of the licenses were issued during the first six months.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed the measure into law in 2013, further establishing California as a national leader on immigrant rights."

    And uninsured drivers.
