    Less ethanol in the 89.
Try some non-ethanol if you can find it.

I put 87 in the taco and it runs like shit. I did not put lucas in its as I usually do.

I don't agree if you put 93 in it that this will cause issues except your pocket book.

I just try to get the best gas meaning gas stationsds that has constant people filling up so you know the gas is not stale..

So were it hurts it to run 93 sorry I am not buying this crap.

And I will tell you any place can get the watered down gas and that why I use fuel treatment.

I don't know shit just have had issues...

on topic above so where does it say 87 only or it hurts the engine and remember you don't if 87 is 87 in that gas pump send a screen shot.

    thanks

maybe someone can show were it states all this out of hand shit above. I am just wanting to take of the fuel system and when I bought a taco I knew that gas mileage would never be good. I am dying if I am lying Toyota is not a fuel saver period.

Ok... The Atkinson cycle engine on the 3rd gen IS fuel efficient.. Not sure if you have 1st 2nd or 3rd... but if you have 3rd and drive it normally... and with normally I mean not trying to drag race every Camry you find at the light, nor chugging along at 20 mph you should get anywhere between 18 and 20 mpg... If you get less than that, congratulations you drive like an animal... you'd probably get bad gas mileage on a Prius... If you DO get that 18-20 mpg than I don't see how you can complain about fuel efficiency getting that on a TRUCK! I mean if you wanted 35-40 mpg you should have gotten a tiny sedan....

I run 87 because that's what the OEM said was good for it. They test this stuff. Seriously, they know what to recommend.
I don't run 89 because nobody buys 89 and there is 0 benefit.
    I don't run 91 because there is 0 benefit.
    I don't run 93 because there is 0 benefit.

I'm okay with < 10% corn squeezins too. Running it for years and tearing down carbs, looking at fuel lines, looking at injectors, I don't see any negative impact. I can see some advantage to running non-ethanol as it will have more energy content, but I'm not spending more to get it. I'd rather save the cash.

I do believe in running top tier gas, but I haven't really tested for thousands of miles.

I've filled up with 91 on a few occasions, due to the pumps being dry of 87, it has no change in mileage or the butt dyno.

93 octane provided me no better mileage or change in how the truck operated. Granted it was only a few bucks more power tank but there's no benefit except maybe keeping the valves a little cleaner from deposits. As for ethanol, the only reason to get non ethanol gas would be if you had a boat or stored your vehicle for a period of time. Ethanol is hydroscopic, meaning readily absorbs moisture. E85 makes more power than any octane gasoline but is mostly ethanol and you burn more fuel

Cant see the 91 or supreme gas making it any smoother. as everyone has explained the engine compression rating and ecu map is setup preferably for 87. will 91 or higher hurt it? probably not. but running high octane fuels is pointless since the ecu will just adjust (pull timing etc) to compensate and end up with the same performance as if you just put the regular fuel in.
it is proven that you are supposed to run the lowest octane possible (the rating designed for your vehicle)

If you had a really hiigh compression rating or a power adder (supercharger or turbo) and aftermarket tune (dyno tuned) then you would need to find the higher octane and premium grade fuels.

stock ecu maps are pretty conservative tunes and normally setup so that its hard to damage the engine with lower fuels.

just stick to the rating designed for the truck.

So this is my 87 week... And you might not believe it but my gas mileage is actually terrible... I used to get 18-21 mpg on 89 and now I average 17... And I do the same trip home-work-home every day... I'm at half a tank now.. will keep monitoring and try the 89 again for comparison... I read somewhere that someone found the 89 to be the best bang for the buck.. and I know that now everyone is going to accuse me of being nuts... But I have the computer to prove it!

I've run all octanes and ethanol free with no noticeable difference in performance or mileage. I've logged every single fillup for the first 10K miles in Fuellie (click the link to see results). My truck likes it best when I fill up with 87 and use the savings on a 6 pack of good beer.

What about those who live in states with 85 octane! 85 or 87?

"87 octane or higher" is the minimum requirement per the operation manual

That comes from the additives they put in the fuel, not the octane. The only thing a higher octane fuel is going to do is make the fuel more resistant to detonation at higher compression ratios. If your engine hasn't been designed for high octane, then putting high octane fuel in the tank isn't going to make the engine run better, smoother, nor more or less fuel efficient or anything else.
