Limit Straps

who has them? I know their purpose, that's about it. i'm curious to know how they are mounted (where you atach the top and bottom). how to determine the size you need. what load rating, and any other valid information.

I've been curious about this for a while, but i'm finally asking now because i just recently installed a lift on my 07 , and run into a slight problem. i heard a small clunking when i go over larger bumps at higher speeds, or just those huge ass speed bumps at lower speeds. i jacked up the front, and found that at about 2.5 in of down travel, it seems like the uca is just grasing the spring. so lightly that the paint on the spring isn't even worn. but i figured, i could stop that by adding a set of limit straps that end the down travel at abotu 2.25 in.

i know new ucas is the answer to this, but while i save up the money for a good set, i'm looking at this as a temporary solution...and then i could even use longer ones after the ucas as an extra safety

so in addition to the general questions about limit straps at the top, is this a decent idea, and is it even doable with stock suspension?

I'd say live with the rubbing until you get new a-arms, you'd probably have to fab some brackets for the straps and it might be more of a pain than it's worth. You could always lower your lift a little too. Mine does this with the OME's and the top plate, haven't gotten around to yanking the top plate out yet...

 

you can buy them at kartek.com, dezertnation.com and a ton of other places. you would have to have someone mount them for you. i have them in front but my suspension was built and straps were going to go on from day one. don't know what size a stock taco would need. the ones i have are about 8" long. this is the only pic i have that shows them.

 

so essentially what i would need is two brackets, one welded to the frame, and one welded to the lca? or could i bolt the lower part right to the same bolt that bolts the shock to the lca? and then i just need to figure out what size.

 

ya i guess you could do that. have not seen a shock bracket on a stock lca in awile though but i am sure it would work.

 

I can almost tell from the picture, but where did you weld the tab onto the frame of your truck. it looks like it's just to the rear of the bumpstop?

I have limited straps with the fox coilovers and stock lower arms, i put it because here in mexico the roads are totally different than in the US, im using a 16inch skyjacker with the 3inch lift so the shock wouldnt hit at the bottom.

 

did you secure it to the lca with the shock bolt, or did you weld on a tab? also, where on the frame is the top secured?

i like the new setup. funny how it's on a lift. what does your truck like better, lifts or jackstands.

 

Yes, i secured it with the shock bolt and above i drill a hole in the base where the coilovers are mounted, so that way its attached to the truck´s frame
