they are really expensive here in Central CA! Went and looked on the lot, they had a used DC 4x4 prerunner 07 with almost 40,000 miles for 28,000. I maybe be better off buying new, looked at the 010 TRD Sport, DC, 4x4, longbed, black sand, tow package, talked to the Salesman, he said best he could do was 30,400 + tax, lic., etc.... so for me to buy this rig it would be around 34,000 YIKES! Any suggestions to get this price down or is this just what they cost here in the land of crazy high $$. I do need 4x4, I do need the DC, I do need the longbed, I would love to have the better sound system, etc... Help me with some ways to "beat up" the saleman to give me a good deal or is it not possible since it's a Toyota.

The used 07 was prerunner. The new 2010 was 4x4.
I got my 2010 DC short bed manual for about 28k I think. Try looking to see what their internet price is or if you're a member of Costco or one of those other auto buying programs that may save you a couple thousand if the dealer participates too.
Go with new IMO. They hold their value very well :D

Edit: ok now I see what you meant by the 4x4 prerunner. Didn't catch that at first

What he said - It will require lots or research and time and you may not find what you want for quite some time but eventually you will.

i found just the truck i wanted, used after a good search for about a month ... 05 DC TRD OR pre-runner SWB 60k miles for $17000. I could have gotten it cheaper but thats what i wanted so i went for it ...

I've been reading a lot of the threads on this site about people buying their trucks because I'm looking to move up to a new or newer Tacoma. If you search the site with the keywords you are interested in you'll get a lot of good ideas.

There could be a shortage of Tacoma's where you are, but I doubt it. If there is, one of the suggestions somebody made on another thread is to take a plane or bus to pick up your new Tacoma in the place where someone will sell you one for a reasonable price. Then enjoy the drive home.:)

Consistent pricing info from this site and others is that dealer INVOICE has quite a bit of profit for the dealer built into it. There is a "holdback" and other $$$ Toyota corporate gives to dealers after a sale is made (I guess if they make their selling quotas, though I'm not sure about this.) Please don't pay MSRP. I don't think even the dealer expects that much money.

Never hurts to try. Check with Edmunds.com You can get ideas on how to shop.
I e-mailed 4 dealers for pricing following their advise and got a pretty good deal from the fleet manager at one of the dealers.

I will not pay MSRP, the rig I was looking at had an MSRP of 32,400 or so. He went down to 30,400, but I think he could do better. Also I have to pay like 9.5% sales tax!!:eek:

According to Edmunds, the Invoice for a 2010 DC, 4x4, LB with Sport package, towing, alloy wheels, CD changer is ~U$30,200. So the dealer the OP went to has a very good price. Unlikely it's going to be much lower anywhere else.

When my wife and I bought her used CR-V it saved us some $$ about 1,000 or 1,500 I think.
When I went for the Costco buying of my Taco they said since it was a 2010 and basically just off the delivery truck the day before they didn't have Costco pricing (plus it didnt help the cash for clunkers had just ended) but they would work with me. Dealer price on the lot was a little over 30k I think, Internet price was 29 I think. After all the taxes and junk it ended up at around 28k I think. Cant remember exact pricing.
You can go to www.costcoauto.com and select all options you want and if you punch in your member # and zip code it will give you a list of dealers in your area that participate in the program.
