I'm not necessarily advocating for high grade gas, but 11.8:1 is a pretty high compression ratio for a truck.

This will always be the case. Watch the '18s come with auto locking tailgates.

Just thought I would start an argument for those uneducated pea brains making uneducated statements here. For anyone saying a K & N 63 CAI is a waste of money you are DEAD WRONG. My truck has a more powerful takeoff and passing power than it had stock. My truck would not spin a tire on ice before. Now it barks tires like a Z28-when I want it to. Best $199 mod in my book. It is loud but only when I want it or need it to be. Only wish the 3.5 could use headers. Crappy head exhaust design. I am sure the dyno numbers will prove me right whenever they are published. Just got tired of waiting for 3500 rpm's to see any power in this 3.5. Let the arguments begin.

So a 8-10 real world HP gain made the difference between not spinning tires on ice and being able to spin tires on dry pavement? Cool, I have a bridge for sale really cheap, PM me for details!

You have to have the tailgate down to tighten down the last 2 clamps. Then it wouldn't shut because the massive weather strip they provide. Take that off and everything fits up. Just have to see if it's water tight now.

My CAI is definitely more than 8-10 hp. Might just be 15-18 but it is a noticeable improvement. If it wasn't I would have sold it on CL and just modded the stock one. I have put these on at least 12 vehicles before and have never been disappointed. Any improvement on these weak performing trucks is substantial. Still no comparison to my 2nd gen.

Ah I agree, they do work. They sure as hell don't make a night and day difference though. Sell it and buy a 2nd gen if you miss it that much lol very simple solution.

I agree with you. It does not add a ton of hp. It works for me. I have been hoping for tuners to come out that can manipulate the valve train and timing to gain some power. I do plan on keeping mine through 2 years with hopes of a transmission permanent fix. Other than that I love my truck. The look, seats, mpg and features are so much better than my 1st and 2nd gen. I bought it to keep for 15 or 20 years. It is sad to see so many for sale with under 10k miles. I understand. I came very close to trading for a 4runner but decided to give it more time. My beef about the CAI statements is that all those "expert" opinions are from people that do not have a CAI. Maybe it is their way of justifying not buying one. Just don't put down something if you have not tried it. I assure you it works great.

I haven't yet shared my opinion on aftermarket CAI, but I don't think those who have is trying to justify not buying and installing one. In real world experience an 8 to 10hp difference is extremely hard to notice. I say this from my own personal experience from modding and tuning my previous car for track use. Also, it needs to be proven that any gains in hp noticed is in the lower rpm band. To me, a small gain in hp at 3600+ rpm is just not worth the money and effort. Until somebody shares real and unadulterated dyno results, there is no way to know. All that said, I don't think Toyota would have pass up the opportunity to present their truck with better hp numbers if all it took was adding an extra fan or stronger intake pressure on their existing CAI on these trucks.

Sorry to say but 5 to 8 is best horsepower you would get out of it. Better off having no one ride with you no kids seats in the back if you're heavy lose a couple pounds save your money and use it for the gas when you stomp on it can you pee faster. LOL but if you like the sound it makes you feel good keep smiling

Exactly, I have old friend that drags cars and motorcycles,he has one state championships.air exhaust can help if your looking to drop time from 6.8 to 6.6 second. For racing that great ,but daily fun driving who cares. Save your money and take backs to save weight would probably do more.
