My brother in law always used to leave his pathfinder in 4 auto and I always told him not to he said no its fine thats what its designed for.
He's one of those guys, never worked a day of construction yet knows EVERYTHING about EVERY trade.

He had the nerve when him and I were helping my parents with a kitchen reno to try and tell me about electrical. My mom actually asked him to leave because she knew I was going to snap. Saying stuff about drywall, or tiling is one thing, but trying to tell me how to do my line of work, no. Never installed pot lights in his life, trying to tell me how to do them.

Serious question, won't derail the thread past this. Main reason you went with a taco after working on so many silverados? Was it purely a mid size thing? How would you rate the silverados after working on a bunch of them?

Here are my reasons. I wanted a 2500hd to use to tow my race car. But they were too expensive. 1500 isn't too my liking. I don't like electric steering and the car suspension. Colorado/canyon are fugly in extended cab version, and my employee price was $4k more than I got my Taco for. The Colorado/canyon also had the car suspension and electric steering I don't like

It's dialed into around 12.2-12.25. Can run a 11.90 but not as consistently

I am about to test drive with the shop foreman. There a big piece of empty freeway with a few hills on it. We'll see what happens

It's been just over a week and the service advisor is mad that it's back. He told me it was fixed and that it wouldn't come back when I picked it up last week

Most service writers are just talking heads. They have no idea what was actually repaired or what the pieces of a car actually are.

He may not, but he still feels bad about it. I came in to buy an air filter and just dropped into the service office and he chose to help me. They are busy and usually don't take people without appointments

Shop foreman hears the noise and is keeping it over night to put it up on a hoist tomorrow to inspect it off the ground. He also wants to drive a new one from the lot to see if it makes the noise.

I asked him what he thought the problem was and he couldn't guess at one issue. He said it can't be the wheel bearings or can't be a drive shaft out of balance. He said he had a truck in a few years ago they howled from the rear end due to wind blowing around but then said it's not that because it doesn't do it under load when going up hills....

So he has no idea. Going to contact Toyota soon about it. I'm getting a Nissan Frontier. Oh shit.

When I had mt diff replaced, they made it sound like Toyota wouldn't let anyone at the dealership open it. I guess corporate is trying to prevent dealers from unnecessarily taking apart, and possibly breaking, a rather expensive part of the vehicle. But on the flip side, I bet if techs were taking these apart to find the issues, we would at least know the culprit by now.

Then why have techs working there if they aren't competent to do anything. I've got that rear end apart. Tech next to me has 2 engines apart. Tech on other side of shop has engine apart and trans apart

As a tech, I'd rather set up my own diff. Not put in an assembled unit that is built on the same line as the screwed up ones.

Just throwing it out there, but one thing i've noticed is if i have it at the steady howl speed and i go over bumps in the road (like the longer, rolling bumps), the noise goes in and out as the bed slowly bounces up and down.

Anyone else notice this or have an area to test this out in?
