    Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing a 2010 Tacoma. I am interested in upgrading the exhaust and not sure what I want to do.
I am considering the Cat-Back and the Flowmaster. If I get the cat-back I will have the dealer install it. They will add an additional $750 onto the price of the vehicle out of door price.
The other option is the Flowmaster for $380 and take it to a shop to install it. Not sure how diff it would be to do myself.
My question is, which system is better? The cat-back, or the flowmaster? Do they both sound nice, and will they both last a long time. Thanks.

My plan is to just by a Flowmaster Super 40 muffler and have a shop cut out the OEM muffler and weld in the new one. Should be a lot less than $380. Might have them dump the exhaust at the axle as well, haven't decided yet.

Just have your local muffler shop weld up your muffler of choice. I had a Flowmaster 40 installed for $120, done.

$750 for them to install it??

    SCREW THAT!!!

You can get a Dual exit catback flowmaster for under $400 and you can install it yourself (with a buddy).

My husband and I installed it ourselves!

$750 just to install it or $750 including the system? Is it the TRD exhaust?

And $380 for the flowmaster what? Cat-back as well?

I say just buy a 40 series flowmaster muffler or whatever muffler you want for $40-60 and cut out the stock muffler and replace it.

It is $750 total, including parts and installation. However, they said they will work with me. What is the difference between the flowmaster, and the upgrade you can get from the dealer?
One is single, and the other is dual, but is there much of a difference?

the trd exhaust from the dealer is made by borla i believe? they should have similar performance gains. they both sound good as well. just pick the one that looks the best to your eye and sounds the best to your ear!

First off, I have the Cat-Back and love it. It was definitely worth the money. However, I did not have the dealership do the instillation. My friend and I installed it ourselves. Both of us have a pretty poor level of knowledge concerning vehicles. It took us about 3 hours to do the installation. I was really rewarding to be able to do it by myself. Use the money that you save from installation and buy the trd intake system. J

That is some great advice. I will do just that. However, I think I am going to go with flowmaster instead. I prefer the dual look.

hehehe, I was already checking out the intakes.

I'm pretty good @ working on cars so should be able to do it myself. Might do the same with the side steps as well. Cannot see paying all that extra cash to a dealer.

The TRD exhaust was not designed by Borla and is not worth 750. Magnaflow or Flowmaster

Any suggestions on other brands of exhaust systems to get? I am wondering if the Flowmaster is too whiney. I cannot find any good vids.

Does it matter if I go with dual exit, or single? Thanks.

I have the Flowmaster Dual out 50 series cat-back exhaust system and I love it!! Sounds great too!! Not to quiet yet not to loud. But it gets pretty loud when you got the pedal to the metal!!:D I did the install all by myself. Took about 2 hours if I can remember correctly, maybe a tad longer? Would have been easier with another set of hands but everything worked out okay.;)

what is the difference between the FM 40, 44, 50, etc series of mufflers and how do I know which one to choose?

I am looking for the most agressive sound I can get out of just replacing the muffler and possibly adding a tip.
