is that a question or statement?
The OR all have rear locker yes.

    Pro as well has locker
SR SR5 Sport and limited all have the auto LSD no locker, not even option for them.
But other members with SR5 and Sport no locker have reported the howling. It effects all 3rd gens.

I've got a 2nd gen Xterra, which is basically the same thing as that frontier without a bed, and looks better IMO. Not as nice as the Tacoma by any means, but has been a solid vehicle. 150k problem free miles on the clock, and no rear diff howl!

Would suggest drive line angles are off like some have resolved the rumble strip feeling on deceleration with the new leaf springs instead of a diff issue

This is what I was thinking as well.

Has anyone had the differential apart and confirmed a bad pinion bearing?

The shop foreman said he really doesn't think it is the pinion bearing. Like another member said, I've had a bad pinion bearing before, the sound didn't stop, it kept getting worse and ended up a roar. He inspected the gears and diff fluid and said it all looked normal on the first differential that was being replaced.

He said typically in these conditions being described it is a gear issue. He believes it is a resonance (or natural harmonic). I personally believe they need to look at it further because it is happening across multiple trims and axle ratios. The dealership basically said they can't do anything else because they can't find a new manual transmission 4x4 OR to drive to compare to.

Same here but the diff sound does not always happen. When driving 50 to 60 mph the sound happens about 50 percent of the time during this speed range. Also Once I get up to 65 mph or greater I don't hear it at all

Strange that yours comes and goes. Under substantial throttle/load mine is not present either, but always present under light throttle and decel.
