Droid

I know theres already a thread for this but I was wondering if those of you who have bought them have had any problems with them so far?
I've got an LG Scoop from Alltel right now and its worse than a POS!! I want a new phone and am considering the Droid but am open to suggestions on other Verizon phones.
Anybody have a Droid that has problems or have a Verizon phone that they love and would buy again?

 

Have Verizon LG Dare and love it...over year no problems and due to job (law enforcement) it gets used hard, dropped etc. Also looking at the Droid though. Wish they (Verizon) would just get the iphone already.

 

Droid has its problems, but verizon is acknowledging them and working on solutions. The only big one that hopefully got fixed on the OTA update last night was the exchange sync... otherwise, small issues here and there but I love the damn phone. Just be careful what apps you download because a few of them like to get memory hungry and slow down your phone.

Very well worth the money and I don't regret at all.

 

I love my droid also. there are some minor problems. but, thats expected with any new device that is as complicated as this one. Keep in mind though. If you dont like the form factor and prefer a phone without a keyboard you should wait for the passion. Rumored to be released in january. Very nice piece of hardware with a 1ghz snapdragon, but i personally like the keyboard otherwise i would have waited for the passion.

 

I am in law enforcement and recently got the Hero from Sprint. My fellow officers are extremely jealous. I love it. Only problem is because they are so new there are few case options compared to phones like the iphone, razr and others.

 

Google Android is still very much a BETA product. And so is the Draoid product.. lots of little bugs still to work out.

My advise is to wait 6 months because a whole new generation of some 12+ Android phones are in the works right now.. but in my opinion they'll allways have little glitches because they really don't dictate tight control over the hardware.. leading to inconsistencies between models and issues with developing apps that will work well across all those different models.

Buy a used iPhone. Unlock it. And it'll work great on Verizon. Except for a very few features like the visual voicemail..

I've helped several friends do this and it's pretty easy. First, troll around for an older 8GB iPhone on ebay.. people are literally giving those away (try to get the 3G one).

 

For those techno geeks out there. Here is a little food for thought. Every media format in the past thirty years including the DVD, blue ray, and VHS have been the accepted format of the porn industry. iPhone blocks all forms of pornography but android is open source in does not block third party software like MiKandi. Something to contemplate as people tire in the lack of innitiative found in Microsoft and Apple products as Google comes out with a phone OS, computer OS, and CHROME for internet exploration...... I am actually contemplating cashing out my retirement and putting it in Google if Microsoft doesn't pull their head out of their you know what and make a fast OS instead of one full of garbage they want you to buy.

 

I was considering going to the Droid but a few things stopped me. I have read many early reviews that are out there and this is what I remember:
- Camera not very good
- keyboard very flat and not easy to use
- no dedicated button on front for phone
- cant use screen protector, Droid touch screen needs skin contact...screen will not work as well. I work in construction so this could be big problem for me.
- Facebook app issues (not an issue for me)
- My "New every two" is not up until Summer. Verizon wanted to charge me $270 instead of $200 w/ 2 year contract.

I played with the phone in store and was very impressed. However, I will wait until July so I get the bigger discount and hopefully they will solve some of these issues.

I was VERY temped though.

 

Just to clarify, Droid is the operating system not the phone. There are many different types of phones to suit your needs. I went with the touch screen Hero from Sprint because I saw no need for a drop down full keyboard. I can actually see most phones in the future going to an iPhone touch screen design with few actual buttons. Android OS has it's issues but for most of us who have used Blackberry or god forbid Microsoft's feeble OS on a touchscreen, this is a serious breath of fresh air.

 

As far as the screen protector goes, I've been using one since the day I got the phone and have no issues at all with it. The touch screen works flawlessly with it. The camera has its moments, but all in all, it takes excellent pictures. Definitely better than my experiences with the IPhone.

 

Glad to hear that feedback. Reviews tend to be a bit picky. I currently have a LG Dare. Had many problems with it freezing. I also need to make sure whatever phone I get to replace the Dare pairs with my Blulogic in my truck.

 

Sorry but you just contradicted yourself. The OS is the Android 2.0. Droid is the name of the phone. I want something like the iphone but refuse to go with AT&T. I know there is talk of an iphone version for Verizon next year but I am not holding my breath.

 

Has anyone had issues with the Droid connecting/not connecting via bluetooth on your radio in your Tacoma?

 

my cuzn is on his 3rd droid and my friend is on his 2nd. my friend's wife hasnt had any problems yet.

 

I broke down and got the Droid about a month ago, no regets yet. Very cool gaget! Had no problem pairing up with blulogic and running through radio. If you have problem pairing, try to do it manually. Google nav, music files ect all will work with blulogic.

Cancel your contract. Sell the phone you have on ebay (use that money towards the cancellation fee) and you can possibly break even, then get an iPhone.

 

I considered buying an unlocked iphone, but decided on the Droid. I could never go to AT&T because I've been told that coverage here in ABQ is not very good. I am a fan of the iphone, just not that much to leave Verizon. Plus a huge deal for me is the iphone lack of a physical keyboard. I had a purely touch phone before and hated the virtual keyboard. I have a HTC Touch Pro 2 now and love the physcial keyboard and can't go back.

 

I don't believe that an unlocked I-Phone works on Verizon. I-Phone's work on GSM networks (Sim Cards).
