I have a base model 2016 Tacoma that came with the flat black front bumper. I would like to get it painted to match the rest of the truck, but if I can do it myself and save some money I would rather go that route. I searched online and found "Automotive touchup" which has the plastic adhesive promoter, primer, base coat, and clear coat. If anyone has used this paint, or has done a similar job, advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a pep boys around you, try there. Mine is a super white and I found a rattle can there that matches really good.

Also my truck is black so it shouldn't be hard to match that. I mainly just want the bumper gloss like the rest of the truck.

I didn't do the front bumper yet, I was just saying I got a good color match. I did the nose emblem and now working on the plastic rear chrome bumper covers

Are you using a spray gun or is it a spray can?

Most likely a spray can if I decide to do it.

Pretty sure those stock plastic bumpers on a SR base aren't really paintable. Pretty sure your going to have to order a new bumper and have that painted

They're paintable but not with some random rattle can. Will need proper prep

Not that it's not doable, but it's hard to imagine breaking out a rattle can on a new truck. Good luck

My dad has a cheap gravity fed paint gun that he bought at Harbor freight that I can borrow. Any thoughts on buying a pint of paint and shooting it through the paint gun?
I'm mainly just considering doing it myself because I'm looking at paying about $75 vs paying around $250 for the body shop to do it.

Yes. Spray can. And easy to do. I go left to right on the spray, just kind of dusting the item, and repeat as you move around the item. Do not! I repeat, DO NOT! Get to close with the spray or it will run on you. Dust item until satisfied with the result.

Paint in a spray can is just that. It has no long term protection as a component type of paint which has a hardener as a component. Spray can paint are meant for the non professionals that requires little knowledge and equipment. To do it right you will need to apply a self etching epoxy primer to the bare part to have a chance of it adhering properly, followed by a primer that's compatible with the Base color and clear coat you apply. All of these require a spray gun and all the safety requirements needed for personal protection, (respirator). $.02

On a urethane bumper fascia wouldn't you use a adhesion promoter instead of etching primer?

Nothing bites better than a Epoxy self etching primer on those type of bumpers in my experience and have had no issues. There are always different methods but this works for me with no complaints from those that I've done this for.
