I'm in the market for an oughties long bed 4x4 Taco, and I'd like to not spend more than $20K. I found this one for $14K. It has 199K miles, though.

What would you offer for such a truck (or am I nuts to want to consider buying a Taco with 200K)?

I would guess that the oughties are the 2000's though ive never heard it called that before. seventies, eighties, nineties, oughties.

200k asking 14k hard pass. This is the rediculous side of the Tacoma. My personal philosophy is you should spend about $.10 per mile you get out of it. Could you get it to 340k? Maybe, but I'd want more breathing room than that.

Link doesn't work. As maybe something to compare to, a few months ago I bought my 2010 DCSB Auto Trans, 180K miles, lifted with wheels (needed tires) for $13,500. It is not a Sport or Offroad. It sucks to buy a Tacoma, but on the flip side the resell is really good. Good luck with your search. Be patient if you decide against this one. I looked for 6 months before pulling the trigger on buying mine. Several others I liked, but they sold really fast. Be patient, but be ready to decide quickly.

When I purchased my 2012 Access Cab TRD O/R (28k miles) for 25, I also looked at an 08 DCLB with 182k on it for $14,500. Started calculating cost per mile and it was a no brainer to spend 10k more to drive an extra 154k. Obviously what you can actually afford comes into play, but that price seems high.

I don't know why the hyperlink didn't work. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for that advice. That's what I needed to hear. The problem I'm having is, Tacomas either seem to be new and therefore pricey, a few years old, and nearly as expensive as new trucks, or wrung out and overpriced for their miles. Actually, trucks, in general, seem to fit this problem. I don't get it.
