    So I got to watch an interesting interaction between a cop and some fool...
    Guy parks in a handicap spot right in front of the restaurant I was in. He walks inside and sits at a table near me. A few minutes later a cop pulls up, gets out of his car and walks a lap around the guy's vehicle. Then he pulls out his ticket book... By this time the guy had jumped up and ran out the door. They exchange words and the guy pulls out a handicap placard and shows it to the cop. The cop seemingly unimpressed points at the windshield and says something. Then finishes writing the ticket, hands it to the guy and walks away. Guy hangs the placard in his windshield and comes back in the restaurant. He noticed that I had been watching and either from embarrassment or an attempt to get some sympathy he decided to explain what happened.
    Apparently he had forgotten to put up the placard when he parked and when he showed it to the cop the cop told him to properly display it and he wouldn't get a ticket next time... I suspect he was not the one the placard was for but that is not for me to judge...

    Do we think the guy was an Asshole for "improperly" parking in a handicap spot? Was the cop a dick for giving him a ticket despite having the placard? I suspect a little of both but I want to side with the cop. I might be a little bias... The guy was driving a Jeep CJ... On second thought maybe the placard was for him after all. Does stupidity get you a handicap placard?

    Do you know the ticket was for parking in Handi? Or is that just what the driver told you? Do you know that it was a ticket? Could it have been a written warning?

    I didn't look at the ticket to be sure but the guy said "$500 is worth fighting the ticket". Unless he was lying, $500 is the right amount for a handicap ticket.

    Something strange with that. Most officers I know would not have written a citation just for failing to hang the placard. It's likely this person was not the one the placard was issued to.

    I know several cops myself. I was a little surprised the cop still wrote a ticket as well. Maybe this wasn't his first offense or more likely the placard wasn't his...

    I did emergency dispatch for a few years, never was a cop myself but I have worked with them often over the years.

    Yup. 2 people in front, 3 in back. I figure she thought someone was following her out. I tried to grab their attention in the store, but they either didn't speak english or didn't want to be bothered. So I left it at "not my problem."
