Just saying if someone wants to do the calculations base MSRP vs. Invoice on a loaded truck can be several thousand dollars difference and can impact the hold back calculations.

I don't do the back and forth and I tell them up front that they have one chance to sell me this vehicle. If they screw it up or want to play a game I walk.

I did that with my last Tacoma. He shoved the paper across the table and I stood up and walked off. He asked what was wrong and I said you had one chance to sell me a truck without the bs and bottom cash dollar OTD. You wanted to play and not take me seriously.

He called me the next week to see if I wanted to come in and talk. He found out I bought a truck the next day from another dealer that wanted to sell trucks. I paid $4500 less at the other dealer without the hassle or any games. Find a dealer that wants to move vehicles and not sit on them for top dollar.

Yeah for sure. I was trading in a GTI and they offered my 2k less than I wanted, when I told them I was going to walk (and that I knew what the black book value was) they magically came up with the money

Base MSRP on my truck was $32,765 and invoice was $34,198. That's a difference of $1433. Holdback of 3% comes to a $42.99 difference. I'd say on a $44K TRD Pro the difference would be less than $100

    1. This was the exact problem I encountered with most of the North Texas internet sales managers. I ended up using Everett Toyota of Paris Tx; internet manager is Jessica Carpenter, I highly recommend her and the dealership. I started the conversation with the EXACT truck I wanted with NOTHING else and they placed the order with a negotiated price I thought was fair. The truck was ordered 8/6/16 and delivered 9/26/16 (as in the dealership drove the truck to my house and left me with the keys for no additional charge). Here's what I ordered and my own frustration https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/13008601/

Weird, I am not even looking for a new truck but for some reason I was just thinking about this exact same thing this morning. When I was looking for a new truck, I called probably 50 dealers asking for a very specific model, and was told everything under the sun about all the other trucks they had but none of them could actually tell me about the truck I was interested in. It's infuriating.

My comment on how the website works was based on an explanation given to me by Toyota Corporate.

    So.. I'll side with them.

There's a reason people come to TW and make threads about why Toyota doesn't offer a DCSB manual in black but they allow one in blue with the exact same specs.

In the time it would take to call 50 dealers, you could sit in front of someone and they can locate you one. It's a hassle, but if you're looking for a very specific truck that isn't common, the best route is go sit in front of someone. If you're looking for a crew cab SR5 2wd, that may be a little different. Pricing on Tacoma's is pretty easy. No rebates or incentives, just negotiate on invoice plus X, and if you can get them to $500 over, that's a good deal. Someday dealerships will figure out that fixed pricing will make them more money, and the customer happier. They all have to do it at the same time, and that will never happen.

The problem was many of them would lie, and say they had that model when in reality it was "a bit different" meaning it was auto and I wanted manual, it was TRD off road when I wanted Sport, it was black and I wanted silver etc.

Nope, full invoice with all options was 34,198 and BASE MSRP was 32,765. Base invoice was 29,353. Even if you went on base invoice and base msrp, 3% of that difference is $145.35. Again splitting hairs

didn't read the whole thread, but for the most part you are correct. However, I lucked out with an internet sales manager who found the truck I wanted at another dealership and told me where to get it. So occasionally you find one that knows customer service.

We had the same experience. Eventually, you will find one who wants to sell you a truck. My wife contacted 25 internet managers via email and got us a deal on our truck.

Not true. We bought ours from a smaller dealer. Got a better deal than the high volume guys in town.

I did buy out of state.

Untrue in Southeast Toyota territory. What I wanted did not exist and wasn't in allocation.

That said, the build site for SET is different than for corporate.

    I'd rather email all fifty.

    One email.

With everyone's email address in the To: line so they can see who else is in play.

I'd describe my exact build and options required, that everything listed is must-have, and that I'm fine if it needs to be ordered.

Out the door price. That trade didn't affect the deal, we'd discuss but I don't have to trade to make it work.

Financing with them would be fine if they give a better rate than my credit union.

... and that I'll write it up within three days with whomever gives me the deal that works best.

I don't have time or patience to schlep all over talking to these guys face to face just to find that most are a waste of effort.

The previous time I did the above I fell for a dealer asking me to come in and "talk"... just more of the same bullpucky whining and crying about how much money they'd be losing to sell at what I was looking to pay.

Enough. Too many others are willing to make an easy simple sale. My Taco was among the easiest buys I've done. I had no surprises, bought *exactly* what I wanted, and pulled what I felt was a very good deal.

Truth. I was very lucky that the dealership I went to had the exact truck I was looking for. It was brand new, but it did have a bit of miles on it.... 100+ but it was built in July I believe. Nevertheless, I was fortunate.
