It's just a Bushnell Instant tent (think 15x10). Sets up in a few minutes. I back the truck into the larger opening and use the side for an entry. When I'm camping I use my truck to shuttle bikes and stuff, so I didn't want anything attached to the truck permanently. The rain tarp I just drap over the topper. It doesn't seal completely but I just wanted a living space to step out of the truck with some privacy.

On our way to the International Redwood Gathering Memorial Day Weekend - of the 100 teardrops there probably 20 were towed by Tacomas with a few Tundras and 4runners.

What's your tongue weight? Looks like your back end is a little low. BIL wants a teardrop but he'll be pulling it with a Ford F-150 (can't get him to convert:rolleyes:).

a classic teardrop is barely 1000-1200 lbs loaded. you can tow that behind a 1980s Volvo.

but there's all these new generation full sized trailers that sorta look like a teardrop, things like T@B's... they can be all over the place weight wise.

me, I think the fiberglass 'egg' trailers like Casitas, Escapes, Scamps, are a more useful shape. my 2100 lb dry, 3500 lb gross Casita Spirit 16' Deluxe has a double bed, 2-burner stove, sink, shower+toilet, fridge, air conditioner, hot water, furnance, and dinette that converts to a twin sized bed... awning, etc. the fiberglass trailers exterior maintenance is really easy, just use marine wax, they are just like a boat with a gelcoat. I'm almost 6' tall and I can stand up in my Casita

That's why my Ride Rites will be here next week

It is not the TD, it's only 875 pounds dry weight (1000 as it sits loaded) and tongue is 120 pounds, the load in the back of the truck is the main culprit. We had stopped in the Bay Area on the way and rearranged the bed somewhat, too much past the rear axle - generator, propane, water, wood all got loaded last. Depending on the tear, an F150 is more than enough, however ours is one of the lightest made, most store bought's are in the 1200 to 1300 range and some homemade I have seen are even heaver as they are made of a lot more wood. We don't load anything in the TD as we want to be able to stop anywhere and sleep without unloading it, have enough cookware to make coffee and breakfast or lunch in the galley.

Went up the grape vine at 75mph, had to really hold my self back as the trailer tires are not rated for that speed. Driving at a lower speed means we haven't seen any decrease in the MPG but it is our only vehicle and it rarely gets on the freeway except camping.

I swear that people loaded up trays of food like they had not eaten in a month and didn't want to buy any for another month.

I guess it's "little trailers means big appetite" however, we have had some awesome potlucks with small gatherings and we like the 5 to 15 trailer groups.
