Not sure why anyone should be pissed off - it's your $$$ and vehicle. We do attach too much emotion to proving our views are better than someone else - this isn't limited to Toyota's or OCI's

I am totally cool with people spending their dough on whatever. Oil changes, expensive liquor, NBA season tickets. It's a free country. The only problem I have is when they get in a jam later and decide they need to pick other people's pockets because of their choices. Just don't be one of those people. :argue:

Avoid syn. blends. There is no regulation on what % syn. conv. is. It can be from 1% to 99% syn. so guess what it's closer to? Go conv. or go Syn. don't waist your money on blends.you don't know what your getting.

Coming up on 5k. The manual clearly states a 10k service interval for oil/filter change, but I just towed my boat 750 miles. Probably 1,000 of the 4700 it has on it were towing. I'll be changing the oil
and filter at 5k for sure. Looking forward to straining the old stuff. Hope I don't find too many factory shavings.

One thing that nobody seems to have brought up yet (unless I missed it in my thread skim) with this topic is that the new 3.5 is a direct-injection motor. Everything I've read about DI motors seems to indicate that pushing your oil change interval out has a tendency to increase carbon deposits on the valves, which increases wear and causes a lot of problems with idle, stumbling on acceleration, fuel economy problems, codes/check engine lights, etc. Additionally, carbon that breaks loose can cause cylinder scoring, which obviously has its own set of problems involved.

So what's more expensive, in the big picture? Changing your oil every 5k and helping avoiding these problems, or pushing for that extra couple thousand miles and eventually having to tear down the top half of your motor to clean it out?

YMMV, but I'd rather just change my oil a little more often. :notsure:

It is both DI and multi-port, the new D4S has a cleaning mode. I would change my oil every 5k with MOA and also add BG's CF5 every 2.5K and 44K every 10k to the fuel tank too.

Just had the dealership do my first oil change when I took it in for the 5k service. Took in my own oil and filter though; Amsoil Signature Series & TRD Pro filter.

Will continue to do oil changes every 5k, even though Amsoil guarantees their signature series for 25k or 1 year... At least if I miss a oil change for whatever reason, or go a few thousand miles over, I won't worry.

I've always used Royal Purple in all my other vehicles before. Knew I had my first change coming up, so I spent the past week researching what I wanted to start feeding my new truck, as I usually start and end (the day it gets sold) with the same oil throughout. After reading all I could find, watching YouTube for hours on end, etc. I decided to switch to Amsoil Signature.... Originally wanted to try Redline, but found it almost impossible to find locally in Houston, or be able to get in a timely manner.

I will be switching to the other Amsoil Signature products (ATF, rear end, transfer case, etc.) as their factory service intervals come due. Also, every oil change I put in a bottle of Royal Purple Max Clean fuel additive/cleaner, just to make sure the fuel injectors are running at peak performance.

Oil has had huge advancements over the past couple decades so have engines. The 3000 miles oil change interval was heavily and successfully marketed by the "Jiffy Lubes" of the industry. Much like mattress companies now saying "if it's over 8 it's time to replace".

When's the last time you heard of an engine failure due to insufficient oil changes?

Exactly. People read the owners manual. Most normal driving requires the oil to be change at 10,000 miles. If the truck is driven mostly shorter trips or dusty environments then a 5000 mile oil change is needed. READ the OWNERS manual

    BTW, Toyota only pays for the 1 year/10K and 2 year/20K. They don't pay for the 6 month/5K and 18 month/15K
