It feels cheap. It's not a Tacoma. Jumpy throttle. It's not a Tacoma

I just took my truck in for the rear diff again (had them look at it at 5K and now 10K service). Service writer said that they opened a case with Toyota for the differential and the rebooting radio.

The really annoying part is that I was told that I am the "first person in the country to have a problem with the rear differential making a howling noise between 55-65 MPH." At my 5K service, they told me that it was an exhaust note, although the ticket said that they could not duplicate. I also just noticed that my tires weren't rotated. Pretty frustrating.

I'm going to call Toyota next week and see about taking it in to another dealer to take a look at it.

I plan on doing the same thing when my 5000 mile check up is scheduled. I just want to put it on record. I am not looking to have them replace my diff because so many people had that done and the results were not good at all. I am waiting for a Official TSB for this problem.

I'm in the same boat. I just want it addressed before I start doing any suspension modifications.

Agreed can send you mine too. This is why Im chill with my service advisor, it pays to have a good relationship with them as they often hold the keys to getting issues addressed unfortunately.

I am also waiting for some sort of assurance that it can be fixed before installing parts. I have a full set of skid plates that I don't want to install until this is over... And over could mean a few different things...

So test drove a 2017 sport and limited today
got the dealer to let me take both on the highway.

Sport had around 400km on it
    Limited had 200km

Neither one had the howl between 90-110KM
I did however notice that the sport had rough shifting and hat seemed like it was having all the issues that TSB are supposed to fix.
While there I asked the service department about the known issues etc.
They were fully aware of all of them but said they have not yet seen any. The service manager I was talking to is 'head of toyota trucks service' as he said not sure if that's even a thing but whatever.
Said he has been contacted by Toyota about the known issues and was told to tell all howling diff issues that toyota is aware of it and is currently working on a fix for it. They know it is not normal and is clearly an issue. So hopefully that will be addressed soon.

Not to rain on your parade, but most developed their's over time, mine was silent and I was a happy blissful customer the first 1.5k.

Well I don't know what to say. You saw my second video right? And I can film another one of my replaced diff howling (if it even is 100% due to the differential at this point). It's loud enough to hear in the cabin and not like ANY other vehicle I have been in.

Toyota corporate called me yesterday to tell me the case is being closed, set to resolved, and that Toyota ENGINEERS have watched the second video and determined that it is an acceptable noise level. They will not be authorizing any further actions with my rear differential unless the noise gets drastically worse or there is a massive failure with it.

So I am hesitant to believe now that there is an actual fix on the way that will provide complete silence (like every other new vehicle I've driven).

Ya but there have been some reporting it early on them. I think it was Z50King had a loaner and it had it with only 500miles on it.

I'm just relaying what I experienced with a 2017 and what I am being told from the dealer. I'm taking it almost like a grain of salt, not sure what to think about it. At the same time I talked to anotehr dealer a few weeks ago about it and they said they didn't even know about the issue.

    Yes I have seen it.

At this point then I really don't know what to think. I'm just relaying what the dealer told me. So who knows, at the same time it doesn't seem to be as big an issue on the canadian models I've only heard one person on here with a canadian model have the diff howl.
I hope it comes up with a fix though.

Yep my 17 loaner with 800 miles had it faint, my truck is back now and quiet for now. Time will tell. I'm okay though as Toyota compensated me for my loss of confidence as a loyal customer so I'll drive her for awhile.

Is this the same rear diff that they used in the gen2? My gen2 rear diff never howled Even if this is a new rear diff for the gen3 that is some straight up bullshit from Toyota. Toyota engineers say it is normal so I guess the same thing will be in the 2018, 2019, 2020 and so on If that is truly toyotas stance then this is my last one
