Quite the educated response there . Again whatever bud. You win keyboard warrior. By the way I have an engine repair degree, A.S. in Meteorology, Bachelor's in Math and Science and currently in a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. But keep running your mouth.

I pull a small trailer a few 1000lbs I use ect power drives awesome. I drive without trailer without ect power it drives awesome. I guess Im not enough of a car guy to understand the transmission and engine power issues. But I have read enough here to be worried now.

I agree especially with seating but suprised the GMC is not quieter on the road. That's one area I've kind of accepted a Tacoma will never be as good as a GMC or for that matter any other truck with wind noise by the window. The 2016 Tacoma is better than my 05 Tacoma but my 2012 Tundra was much quieter than the 2016 Tacoma.

That's a shame you're worried, shouldn't be. As a "fanboy" I encounter none of this, have 25k on my 2016 taco and pull a 4,250 lb HI-Lo RV. Have owned three Tundras previously and the Tacoma just fits us better. You'll note none of these geniuses have enacted the "lemon law" leading me to have little regard for the whining. Wife and I used it on her GM car and got it replaced through BBB only to have the replacement fail again at the same mileage, same problem, no oil; finally just traded it for an Endeavor which she still has. Point being, if your new Tonka Truck fails three times with the same problem you have options beside pissing and moaning. Especially enjoy philosophical ramblings of the dufus' that don't own a 3rd Gen. Internet whining underlines real issue, if you have a real problem with your purchase, do something about it, unless of course the problem isn't the truck....

I think the wind noise is an extended cab phenomenon. With the suicide doors on the back I seem to be getting a bit more road/wind noise. But again, this is my perception and others may not feel the same way. But, like you mentioned the seating is better in the GMC.

I don't get why folks are constantly comparing full size trucks to the mid sized Tacoma? They're completely different animals. If you're looking for a full time truck with heavy duty towing ability, stick with the Sierra. If you're looking for a great all around vehicle that gets good gas mileage, fits in a normal size garage and can tow your toys on the weekend, get the Tacoma.

I'm in a similar boat. I have a 2015 GMC 1500 All Terrain. I'm not sure the Tacoma gets better mpg as mine gets average 16 in the winter and 20 in the summer. My consideration is I miss my FJ but don't want to give up the benefits of a truck. Does adding 2.5-3 inches on the tacoma fix a little of that sitting low feeling or not?

very tired of reading zachmx responses to other board members. Sometimes he is right but jesus, when hes wrong he is an egotistical ass who has to put himself up on a pedestal. He is a true keyboard warrior

OP-I have owned a 2004 silverado. crew cab lt 4x4. 5.3 with 4l60e. Great truck never had any problems with it besides general stuff like water pumps, brakes etc...Problem was when i went to sell it, i only got 6300 for it and it was in excellent shape with fairly low miles. That low of a price will not happen with the tacoma that has the same or close to the same options as my silverado had. 2500 and up gm trucks will hold their value much better than a 1500 truck by the way

I went from a full size 3/4 ton diesel, to a 2016 Tacoma, back to a full size 1/2 ton. My take on it is this-

If you are really going to use your truck offroad (and I mean honestly 'off road'), then the Tacoma would be my first choice. It's simply built better for that purpose.

If you are going to be hauling any significant amounts of gear, towing, or travel over the road long distances- the full size Chevy wins hands down- It is built better for that purpose.

Fuel mileage is a wash- my full size 6.2L Chevy get's the same or better mpgs's.

All the quirks and 'issues' of the Tacoma aside- if you don't haul a lot, tow a lot, or drive long distances and you want an all purpose rig- certainly the Tacoma would be the best fit.

It didn't work well for me- I haul 2 hunting dogs, camping gear etc over fairly long travels. I put 14,000 miles on my Tacoma from August to December alone. It was not the right rig. I tried to compromise. I've put 5,000 miles on my Chevy in the past month alone- I am much more satisfied that I can be more comfortable and haul everything I need (and still get great mileage). What did I lose by going to the full size Chevy? I won't attempt a small number of trails, which is only a tiny fraction of what I would ordinarily do. But I also am keeping my 1998 Jeep Cherokee as a dedicated trail pig..

Zach is actually a pretty good guy. He just gets caught up in the small details at times. Which is easy to do when we are passionate about things. He and I have had an argument here and there. But nothing held against him.

If you want to haul a big load, buy a Chevy Silverado. If you want to Swallow a big load, buy a Ford. If you want a good truck with excellent resale value and quality to boot, buy a Toyota Tacoma!

Does adding 2 inches to the tacoma remove some of that sitting low feeling?

I had about 1.5" lift with Bilstein 6112's and I didn't notice anything too different, frankly. The cockpit of the Tacoma naturally feels 'low' to me. Even though the Tacoma has higher ground clearance, the Silverado seating is higher and looks over the hood. My 16 yo daughter had a tough time seeing 'over' the hood of the Tacoma.

I'll speak from my experience only. I had six General Motors trucks in a row and wanted to switch it up so I gave a 2017 Tacoma off-road a try. I traded in a 2015 GMC all-terrain truck that was absolutely loaded with leather. I was very disappointed after purchasing my Tacoma but I think it was mostly due to the fact that I was very accustomed to driving a full-size v8 pick up. I had a few issues with my Tacoma at first, but they have been straightened out... I'm not saying that Tacoma is a bad truck by any means, and after 4000 miles it's starting to grow on me. But that being said, if I had it to do over, I would definitely stay with my gmc... I honestly think it's just a matter of preference
