You're in the same boat I was. ECGS for sure. Already had ARB rear locker so didn't need a complete third. Bought ring and pinion plus master install for $440. Pulled third myself and had shop install gears on it for $300

Front the assembled clamshell is a damn good deal. I got the complete with good used bearings, the needle bearing upgrade, and solid spacer for $690. Didn't see the need to spend $200 more on new bearings since they have a 5 year warranty on both.

Especially with the 6-speed, you'll love the regear! I went 4.88. Great around town with acceleration, fucking awesome in 4 lo :turtleride:, ok to a bit overgeared on the freeway. 3k rpm at 70 in 6th gear. Any faster and gas needle drops like a fuckin rock. But windy 55 mph roads are tits. Rev match downshift corners. Sometimes I forget I'm driving a heavy turd :p

Wait... You went to the rear end shop for the front? Lol

I get ya. What did you end up spending all told? I see the assembled thirds are 665 from ECGS.

And how much work was swapping the third? Worth the $ savings?

I went to The Rear End Shop in Santa Rosa $2200 for 4.56 gears and all new bearings. You are more than welcome to drive my truck around if you want to see how a set of 4.56's feel with 35's. I think 4.88's are the way to go in an automatic but are overkill in a 6 speed. When my speedometer says 80 I'm really doing 73.

Oh dang, 4.88's huh. I like that idea, I don't go anywhere fast anyway.

Maybe I can have you help me out with ordering shit and installing it. I'm kinda new to the gears and whatnot. Did you install the front yourself?

Pulling third is pretty easy. Much more so than the front. Would have been $300 for the shop to remove/reinstall third. Worth the savings. Front was $500

Good to know. Interested to find out what you guys that did some of the work yourself paid all in all. I like to work on my truck, but with the dual kid factor, some jobs are better left to the shop.

Chris I'd like to cruise your rig, That'd be a good way to figure out what I want gear-wise. Plus didn't you just replace your clutch? I'm fairly certain mine is trying to die. Id like to drive a fresh one for comparison.

Copy. So all told you were around $1930? (If my post Saturday beer math is correct) that would make sense with the +- $300 difference between Chris' $2200 quote.

Yeah with the help of @tyfoon11 @EDDO and @Gply. Did it in my carport spot on a rainy weekend. Those guys were quick to lay in the puddles and late to leave. Having them was essential. I'd be happy to help, just lmk. As I remember; tap off dust cover, Loosen axle nut, remove tie rod, separate LCA from spindle, swing hub out of way, tap out cv, remove clamshell, swap stub shaft, reverse and repeat...

Haha have another . No about $500 less than that. :amen:

So after much discussion (and Saturday beer math - @ffdawson) I've decided I'm getting a RTT. I'm ordering a bed rack from BAMF and getting a Tepui so I can drive down to Santa Cruz and make sure we get what we want.

I see, so the "$500 for the front" was the quote the shop gave you, but you did the labor yourself, with eddo, gply and tyfoon11. I getchya. So actually quite a bit of savings to be had doing it yourself... Hmmm...
