Postpone carpet delivery?

 

Not at this time, 2 other rooms are also getting new carpet and we don't want to postpone them.
I think we'll be fine taping really well and putting paper and plastic down, most of the painting will be done with a roller and it's usually not very messy.

 

Adjusted my doors today , made and mounted some travel stops and mounted the guide rollers but I wasn't happy with the amount of play in the roller and the doors could contact the sidewalls slightly so I fashioned a couple guides to add to the situation opposite the roller out of some UHMW strips I had kicking around , nice positive action on the doors now with no slop and no contact with the sidewalls

So we're looking at cabinets now and were going with a white shaker style. Now we just have to decide what they're built out of. The faces are going to be mdf for sure. However were still deciding on the back and frames. Our two options are mdf or melamine. Any benefits of one over the other? The melamine won't need to be painted white, but the mdf will, raising the cost slightly.

I just feel that the mdf will hold up better than the melamine. Thoughts?

 

You mean the frames and cabinet boxes ?

Melamine is easier for cleaning but I've had issues with delamination of the melamine face off of the substrate , and if the inside of the boxes are going to be open anywhere you could colour match the inside of the case to the fronts with mdf

Most of the cabinets I install have lacquered birch plywood boxes

 

Yea I'm leaning towards mdf. A few of our cabinets are going to have window pane faces so being able to see a different shade of white would drive me crazy. That is unless we color match the faces to the melamine white.

 

Won't any exposed MDF absorb moisture (humidity, spills etc.) and swell?

 

Not if it's painted

 

Built a large workbench with my roommate so we can actually accomplish projects in our garage.

Replaced the failed 1/3HP pump and sand filter on my pool with a 1/2HP pump and cartridge filter. Time to reclaim the swamp.

 

Yeah, it's one of those enamel coatings for concrete. Really beefy stuff that is almost impossible to scrape through and it lets you just wipe oil and other liquids right off of it.

The joys of living in the country

 

Getting there!! It feels so good to be so close to weatherproof. Gutters on Thursday, and garage door coming on Monday!! Finally started the last wall tonight.

 

I had a very productive weekend, culminating with the installation of a new ceiling fan in the master bedroom that would have been impossible prior to my newly acquired 12' ladder.
