If it is the CPS this would be the first of the 2017's to have that problem. A problem that was supposed to be rectified by a newer version of the CPS. Subscribed for updates as to what the dealer finds. OP please update when you get an answer.

An no one feed the @Aussiek2000 monster...he wont leave the thread to those of us who may add something useful if you do. His truck is perfect, he is perfect, he does not believe others have problems, he believes no one should mention or question a problem they are having. That is all you need to know about him.

Ummm it went into limp mode and they just cleared the code and told you to "monitor it?" DaFuq? I would have insisted they kept it until the problem was resolved 100%. That seems like a safety issue to me

Sounded strange to me too. OP will be back to their dealer before it's all said and done

CPS has been a known issue on here though. Mind you I've only actually seen 3 threads for it but have heard it mentioned in others.

I get that, my point is just because one has not "personally seen" a certain vehicle have an issue, doesn't mean it's not commonplace. Just because mine has 13k miles on it without an issue doesn't mean anything either.

Good point. I was at the dealer today and asked about the known issues, tech said he hasn't seen any yet but has heard them. But I am also in the city where camry and corolla sells way more than taco. The tech even admitted he only heard of the dealer selling 3 so far for 2017s.

But oh well I took his info sorta at a grain of salt, just nice to hear that its not like every dealer and every taco is having this issue given I'm buying one soon.

    I'm calling bullshit :poking:

I don't work at our Chevy store anymore but I've seen a few tow in's on brand new vehicles. Let's face it, it happens with every manufacture. Just some more than others

The improved CPS are the same part# with a stamp at the end so they can identify the bad one from the first batch

Sucks OP, get it fixed and then give Toyota a call as I did. Lets just say they helped "restore my confidence" in the brand and my loyalty remains, for now.

OP, it is very useful to some of us to the confirm that it is a camshaft sensor issue as you posted (and have also been reported) and not a crankshaft sensor (as many here are concluding on their own) as for the reasons given above. We were told the issue was resolved with the bad batch of crankshaft position sensors used in earlier build 2016 trucks.

Is the cps sensor a quick fix or do they have to have the truck for a few hours?

Why can't Denso get this right? Does this mean that the people who had new sensors put in months ago are still liable to have an issue with their new sensor?

It takes longer to get access to it than it does to change it out unless you have done one before. Another poster went ahead and just bought one to keep with him.

Really? Care to explain how all those $80,000 Z06 Corvettes explode the guts out the bottom of the crankcase without being towed to the dealer?

All of them, huh? We've sold 10-15 and none have been back for anything other than oil changes

Ok, lets all calm the eff down a bit here.
First off, a modern car is a very complex piece of equipment, so you're bound to occasionally run into one, MAKES NO DIFFERENT WHO MADE IT, that has some glitch as it ships from factory. It happens.

I tend to feel like a brand new vehicle is about as reliable as a REALLY OLD one that has been severely abused, and is getting close to being scrapped. Takes a while to work the bugs out and get into the sweet spot when it will run reliably for years. What makes a GOOD vehicle over a CRAPPY one, is (a) whether that sweet spot even exists, since some vehicles just keep on breaking, and (b) HOW LONG that sweet spot lasts, 50,000 km? 100,000 km? 750,000 km? The issues that you get straight out of the factory are MEANINGLESS. They have no bearing on how the vehicle will hold up. Get them dealt with and then (hopefully) enjoy the thing.

Now about this sensor problem... from available information, there is no way to know if OP's vehicle has the "old" or "new" version of it. They may have had a million of the old sensors in a crate that they had to use up before switching new production to the new one. There might have been a delay in building up an inventory of the new ones to meet REPAIR demands over new builds, after all, this is something that "might" fail, or might work fine for years, so those who have a BROKEN vehicle will take priority.

OP: work through the process, don't sweat it.
