Ok, if any of you are like me, one of your first thoughts was about retro-fitting the '09 Tacoma back-up camera into your current 2nd Gen. Taco. I did some checking around and talked to a parts dealer that is a close family friend. Here is what I know:

    1) The '09 mirror and camera set-up was not intended to be retro-fitted.
    2) Major splicing, cutting and patching would need to take place for install.
    3) The rear view mirror needed retails for $631.84.
    4) The camera retails for $720.15.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but with all the technology and manufacturers out there, I know you can get a comparable system, if not better, for less money and less work.

    Hope this helps.

Oh yea, a friend of mine installed s whole system in his family mini van, included two back headrest monitors, new headunit which can handle a different dvd for each screen, a gps and a backup camera, all for about 3000 installed, i mean its not cheap but imo its better than the stock stuff....

thanks for the research on that. Even if it would be simple to retrofit, I figured OEM stuff if going to be outrageous. There are ebay items that have a camera and rear view mirror back display. I think the signal might even be wireless.

K & N airfilter, custom built 10" sub boxes, pioneer head, mag-lite mod, Blue LED dash lights, custom painted engine cover, mud flap removal mod, alarm/remote start installed,
for that much cash you could get a nice aftermarket DVD/NAV/BACKUP CAMERA system for that. crutchfield had a nice setup for 750.

Or you can buy the regular 05-07 handle for U$17 on Ebay and use a dremel tool.
