I'm hoping this as well. Of course the issue isn't happening all the time, and only did it yesterday when warmed up. I'll be sure to get video of it to have proof. Being a mechanic I traced the noise to what I now know is the HPFP. Why isn't there a recall on these?

For sure man. Make sure when you drive up, leave the truck running if it's making the sound. I went to the first dealer, turned the truck off and when they checked after restarting, the sound wasnt there. Sure as shit tho on the way home it made the sound

I asked the same question and was advised Toyota bases a TSB or recall on the number of complaints filed. A slight possibility for a TSB but don't see a recall since no safety concern or failure has been identified to date. A recall triggers media and unwanted publicity for a manufacture too! I actually recorded the noise on my phone and let the service manager and writer hear it however, a Tech also heard the noise when doing the transmission TSB on an earlier date. When they heard the recording, I was offered to order a replacement fuel pump and lifter. Remember, all Tacoma's are not making the chirping noise. Good luck!

Hasn't done it for a few days and just got video of it now... Seems like the same noise you had to me?

EDIT*** Can't figure out how to post the video on here off of my iPhone.

I'm bringing my truck in tomorrow for the ole "chirp" sound. I already had it in last week for a field service engineer/tech (whatever they are) to look and listen at it. I know he had them order an idler pulley for my truck which is supposed to be installed tomorrow. He is supposed to be there again tomorrow looking into the chirp sound some more also. I mentioned to him last week that I'm pretty sure it is the pump and he didn't really agree or disagree. He did mention a similar problem from a Scion model. I will see what happens tomorrow.

And once again, a couple of more problems with my truck have been labeled the ole famous "characteristic" of the vehicle. The fuel pump chirp is normal according to the Toyota field engineer/tech douchebag. Recommended I use non-ethanol gas to eliminate the noise. I don't have my truck right now, so I don't have my manual to look it up, but I am pretty sure it does not say to use non-ethanol gas. One of the dealership tech's noticed the idler pulley wobble, not me, but that is also deemed within normal wobble limits by the field service/engineer jack-ass guy. Every problem I bring the truck in for is either labeled "characteristic" right away or after an attempted fix without success, the problem is then labeled "characteristic." Toyota is a fucking joke.

It's not normal and if you challenge them to try a new truck in the lot it probably won't chirp. I didn't read if this was your selling dealer but I would try another dealer. My dealer identified and replaced my fuel pump a few weeks ago and still no chirping noise. Good luck!!

My problem is not with the dealer. Toyota will not authorize a replacement pump. My pump chirps about 80-90% of the time now.

Are you getting this information from your dealer or did you have an actual conversation with a Toyota factory Rep? I certainly understand your frustration however, it don't make sense how a Toyota Rep or a dealer denied your complaint when there's documented cases by other dealerships addressing chirping complaints by the removal and install of a replacement fuel pump under warranty. Sorry to hear this, not right.

I went in to my dealership today... Of course the truck wasn't making the noise when I went, but I showed them the video I had taken. They also labeled the noise as a "characteristic" to the truck. They've had a few customers come in with the same complaint but said Toyota wouldn't issue a replacement because there isn't a present issue. I'm planning to talk to a different dealership tomorrow. Other than that chirping noise happening sometimes the truck is great!

The regional tech/engineer rode in my truck with me. I had a full conversation with him on the ride and as he was taking videos of underneath my hood. It seems to be pretty common for Toyota to not be consistent with their ways of handling issues with these trucks.

I don't understand why dealers are doing this. Can you guys try other dealers or are they few? I know Florida was swamped with them.

10/07/16 - My Toyota service department finally got back to me today and they said Toyota corporate will not authorize them to replace the second fuel pump. Toyota is aware of the problem but they do not have a solution.

Be happy to verify a replacement pump that does works so far as well as TacoFister who has several thousand quiet miles on his replacement pump too! My dealer did replace the pump and cam actuator that drives the fuel pump, that noise was embarrassing to me.

It's a bummer that Toyota knows about this issue... Yet has no solution other than telling us its "Characteristic" to these trucks. My brothers 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport has never made the chirping sound once. I'm going to call a few other dealerships. Hopefully there is a solution soon.

Between the chirping and the vibration,
I'm going to look for another truck.
And will never at Toyota again because of their customer service alone..

Thank you for the feedback. I used your information to go back to the dealer to try again. I even discussed the issue with the General Manager and he contacted the Field Tech Specialist who told him that they are NOT going to replace the Fuel Pump again. He said the FTS said "Toyota is aware of the issue but they do not have a solution in process. They are not going to continue to spend time and money on replacing the Fuel Pump that may not resolve the issue". The General Manager suggested that I contact the main Toyota Customer Service center and open a case. I did that and they said Toyota Corporate has no choice but to stand behind the decision made by the regional field technician and what could you expect them to do if there is no solution. However, while remaining calm and polite I continued the conversation with Toyota corporate and they said they would open the case up to the dealer to try again and by pointing out the Cam Actuator. Toyota corporate did say that the dealer might come back with the same answer as before (NO second try on the Fuel Pump).

I got the same results as well....
I am really surprised at Toyota as a company on handling this.
You would think the the number one selling midsize truck would be a priority.
The way this is being handled, they are opening the door for another manufactor to take its place..

That's a game the dealers like to play with the customer. Most of the time, what ever the dealer says goes!!! If it's your selling dealer, they should take a special interest in getting your situation resolved. I have to believe after reading some of the success and failures on the chirping fuel pump replacement there's more to it. I do know the tech who replaced mine ordered a new actuator cam lever with the fuel pump and installed it. I saw that was also done on TacoFister's vehicle as well. So far we are both success stories. I also have not changed the fuel I have been using which was and is Shell. Best wishes!
