Dead truck after 1600 miles?

We'll see, care is the most important factor. Too many people drive there trucks all winter and never spray them. I always wash mine and spray/clean the undercarriage. I sprayed the frame pretty good, I'm confident it will hold up if Toyota Infact used shit steel again for the frames

 

Toyota roadside isn't 24x7? Or you just want it taken directly to an open dealer, not dumped in the lot for them to find tomorrow?

It's the Crank Position Sensor. Apparently there was a batch of faulty ones. Haven't heard of any replacement units failing.

While it's in ask for a trans fluid level check, have them document that; and if you've had ANY shifting/delay into gear issues, get the transmission TSB done. And documented.

Open a case with Toyota Corporate, tell them your new vehicle leaving you stranded gives you the quivers about Toyota reliability, especially on a $35k 1,600 mile unit. Ask for a complimentary warranty upgrade on their nickel.

Could be your event, while annoying, was fortuitous.

 

Too many people spray their frames every year and still get nasty rust all over them. Just takes longer...

 

It is never to late. Life is to short. It will cost you several thousands of dollars to trade but it is worth the good nights sleep. Believe me been there done that with a 2015 Chevy Colorado! Lost just over $4,500 getting rid of that POS.

OP- contact corporate ASAP. These companies need data to do anything.

 

His was probably a faulty CPS sensor too. The dealer probably couldn't diagnose it and when he said he had been wheeling on the beach they probably assumed he got sand somehow in the tank. After a 14k repair bill and it returning for the same issue, they probably used the HID kit as a scape goat, and swapped the CPS sensor without him knowing so hey didn't look like total morons.

Just a conspiracy theory though

 

While that could *possibly* be true, that is a lot of speculation. I am not familiar enough with the CPS failures to comment on them.

That said, @MSOEME2009 - I would highly recommend you swap out or disconnect all aftermarket bulbs, before the dealer starts racking up multi-thou$and dollar bills chasing an issue that could be an electrical problem. This is eerily similiar....aftermarket lights + water = dead truck.

 

There are 100 times more 3rd gens operating just as they should than not. You're on a 3rd gen forum. You're going to hear about the ones having issues.

No, the gen 3 Tacoma is having more problems than usual. Go look at the Canyon/Colorado forums and see how few problem threads there are compared to the Tacomas. Toyota has rested on their gen 2 reputation. They threw a Lexus parts bin motor, made a new new interior (which I actually like) and put slightly different sheet metal on a gen 2. The result is a less powerful motor (I know what the specs are but for anything below 4,000 RPM the 4.0 is more powerful) and you get to pay more money.

 

Again another vehicle that has issues, did it park next to a "turd" gen taco? Look folks not just Tacomas having trouble.

 

^^^ what he said. It's more or less every manufacturer out there. Quality control has slipped across damn near all makes and models. Most people who buy any of the new vehicles are fine, some like myself are unlucky.

 

My truck had similar issues after getting wet.... It was my HIDs apparently
