I wouldn't get a diesel that isn't from Japan, Germany, USA, or Sweden.

Although a work truck model 4x4 extended cab Colorado diesel does sound tempting though.

sub'd 'cause I am really curious if it is the truly the lights that are causing this. I have HID's from ddm tuning in my headlights and fogs on my '17 OR and I have driven in rain and have had them installed for a couple weeks now with no issues (knock on wood). I want to follow to see if this is truly an issue or if this is just a real rare occasion with some owners. I also have led bulbs in my reverse & license plate bulbs too with no issues.

I'm also wondering if it is because the OP was cleaning under the hood with a pressure washer that was causing some of the possible issues where as if it is raining you're fine 'cause water isn't getting to any of the connection points.

When I installed mine, I put e-tape around all the connection points just as a little extra assistance lol

Craaaaazy that a shorted ballast can disable the whole truck.
I've had plenty of HIDs and retrofits and my share of faulty cheap and expensive ballasts, but never did they stop the vehicle from running. good luck OP!

Yea who knows. I drove it for about two hours today to Lowes, Best Buy, Sams, ect. and it worked just fine. It's 80F and sunny, sat in traffic, heat loaded the engine as someone recommended.

I hate intermittent problems, they're a bitch to diagnose. If I had an ODBII scanner I would have read the code before clearing it with the battery disconnect method.

If there was a wiring diagram I'd be curious to see how the low beams are tied into the system. I'd assume just relays, which would provide the ECU a separate circuit and protection which would make the headlight ballast theory incorrect.

It's hard to argue however that removing the LED kit and resetting the ECU worked. Maybe just resetting the ECU would have worked.

I know of an expert witness whom testified in the Toyota acceleration case who said their programming is a bunch of garbage in their ECU. Too many wrong subroutines with not enough checks. The ECU could just have gotten stuck into a bad loop.

Surprised I didn't see the blue screen of death on the console LOL.

Either way, no more HIDs or LEDs for this truck. I picked up some silverstar ultra's at wally world. One less piece of the puzzle if something happens again.

FWIW I have the stock high beams, Morimotos from TRS in the low beams, Phillips XtremeVision LEDs in the fogs, LEDs in all interior lights except for the visor lights, and LED reverse and license plate lights and so far no issues.

I realize it's just anecdotal and I might be the "odd one out", but it is a data point. I also have not gone under the hood with a pressure washer...

OP. There's my 45 page long failure. I updated the front post so you get a synopsis.

We're having essentially the same issues. Toyota came back the second time as said it was the lights. I had the XC LEDs. (2strokes replaced them) and now currently have the 2 strokes... Haven't got them wet yet. I also have Morimoto HIDs. I sealed the HIDs up and soaked it with a hose. No issues. But j did find a bad led driver.

Resetting the codes doesn't usually work for this issue (I have a code reader and tried a million things)

Unplugging the lights and drying it out are the only things that work. I bet you that it is throwing injector circuit codes. That's what killed my truck.

FYI I don't use a pressure washer. Only sprayed the hose to pre-wash/soak, then use a wash mit with a wash & rinse bucket, rinse, dry.

I used both and had an issue with both.
