To anyone looking for flea control I highly recommend staying away from the pill one called "nexgard". I trusted the vet with out old dog and she's not doing so well. It effects the liver and kidneys and it's very toxic. Basically a death sentence to any older dog IMo. Prep had liver toxicity earlier this year and even after clearing that up she still seems sick. Wish I researched it more myself

All flea control products are like that to some degree. At least those absorbed through the skin or ingested. Last time we were at the vet, they pitched a couple of different things they carry. I'm not a big fan of the stuff to be honest. I do use K9 Advantex (flea/tic) but not all year and often only when I know I'm taking Riley to a place where tics are prevalent.

Hope your pup is feeling better soon.

Thing is we use to use the wet stuff on their fur they absorb. Less then a month after we did last she she developed the immune disease that almost killed her. Then now this stuff. I really think its best to do non chemical ways first until its absolutely needed

I switched my pup to Nexgard in May and so far so good. We used to use Frontline on him but it pretty much stopped working against fleas and ticks. Advantage only works on fleas, and Advantix is a no go because cats in the house.

That's why I stay away from that stuff..... Sorry your pup isn't doing well. Hope she's better soon.

x2. only use it when I absolutely need it.

  on the non chemical ways first

Frontline stopped working for me, too. switched to k9 advantix. Why can't you use it on the dogs when there are cats?

Advantix has permethin in it which is highly toxic to cats. From what I've read, even when it's dry it's possible for it to be transferred to the cats since they kick each other out of sleeping spots.

Which sucks because that's what I'd be using if I only had dogs.

There aren't many non-chemical products that work well for any length of time-if you can get past the strong initial smell, eucalyptus oil works. And none of them (including many chemical cousins) really do much for tics.

I've tried to limit chemicals that Riley gets-he has some skin issues and even that is something I try to treat with the least intrusive methods possible. And I realize things like K9 Advantix is the only thing that kills fleas and tics for Riley and even then, I only treat him when it's needed.

didn't know that. Yeah, don't need the cats to get into it.

we've used Preventic collars for ticks for years for our dogs, they seem very effective. they don't kill the ticks, they seem to make them stoned or something so they can't figure out how to bite.

I've had my 3 Shorthairs on Nexgard for a year with no issues. I suspend use Nov - Mar.

Its easier than the topicals and my dogs have enough collars on them.

My gripe is $20 a pill.

I've noticed vet medicine has been crawling up to the point it's as expensive as human medicine and has just as many machines and drugs too.

I would highly suggest searching it a lot of you have not already. It's close to be being pulled from shelves and most vets around me won't sell it anymore

We use Trifexis on our two criminals and they both seem to not have any side-effects from it, however it's pricey.

Another photo of Henry (Pinky) - and the criminal mastermind running behind him known as Sophie (the brain).

I saw this Great Dane riding in the bed of a Ford Ranger today. Both black and white matching perfectly. That dog looked huge in the bed of that truck.
