I realize this is only part of the puzzle but it's the most relevant piece without uploading the whole damn schematic. Headlights (lo and hi beam) tie into M6(A) Main body ECU (in this case it means Electronics Control Unit and controls all the lights on the vehicle). See that blue box at the very top. CAN communication lines come out of the main body ECU (black and white wires) and go into a junction connector (J3) where it's split into a signal that talks to your instrument cluster (biggest blue box on the right), and finally down (through another junction at J16) into your ECM.

So yes, your headlights are connected to the engine control. CAN signals boggle my primitive brain, but I do know that if what's supposed to be a high/low binary signal turns into not-binary, things turn fucky really fast.

If it's generating noise on the CAN bus, you might want to look into one of the bluetooth scanners that plugs into your OBD diagnostics port and can then stream the data to your smartphone using an app like Torque Pro.

If nothing else, that will give you some cool features and gauges to monitor.

Best case it may be able to datalog the failures and send them to your email address.

Check Out My Build Thread :)
curious if the OPT7 guys out there have had any similar issues? I have the OPT7 with mini ballast set up and haven't had any issues but these threads are seriously making me re-think the led bulbs in there...

    Those are 2nd gen frames....

There are no spare 3rd gen frames to que up, the factories are too busy putting new trucks on them.

Makes sense to me that it could stall the truck. It's an electrical part as is the CPS sensor. All kinds of problems can happen due to faulty electrical parts. Stick with the style of bulb the truck is designed to have and you should have limited issues. For an HID look with good results the Sylvania ZXE are awesome.

NO ABSOLUTELY THEY DO NOT - they are diodes... they are similar to a resistor in that they are a current SINK .. they will draw amps from a power supply .. an LED has special material they are made of that when the current is passing thu causes light to emit... ala LED = light emitting diode...
