Shit. Please keep me posted. Are you having it done in Temple or Waco? I forgot where you bought your truck, but I may hit the same dealer. If you remember, our trucks are virtually twins. They were built and delivered to Central Texas in the same week. I just hit 10K, and it's still from about 55 to 65 but I think it's gotten a little louder. Started at about 2-3K miles for me.

    Stock and loving it
They drove a regular 2 wheel drive model with locker and said it faintly made the noise. Then they put a guy in the back seat of my truck and he heard the noise. They put it up on a lift and inspected everything and nothing was out of place or broken. They are closing the service ticket and will write that it's a normal problem.

I have a case manager calling me tomorrow. Hopefully we can resolve this

I got tired of waiting for a fix and went ahead and put some new tires on today. For those that still think the noise could be a product of the stock tires (for whatever reason), I can confirm that it is not. Just as noticeable on 265/75/16 as it was on the stockers. Much happier with the new tires though!

I want to see someone regear and see if it still does it.
some reason I feel getting the diff serviced by an aftermarket independent shop might give some better success.
Just who will bite the bullet and pay for it first. THEN at that point what will toyota do knowing it can be fixed?

I'm not going to let another shop touch it besides Toyota until the warranty goes out. Any excuse you give them to void the warranty they will probably take. But I do agree with you, I bet someone with some experience in this area could probably diagnose the issue by cracking that diff open.

its things like this that really make me wonder how true that fight club line is about doing a recall etc.

If they do end up just dismissing it as normal can we trust toyota that it is actually 'normal' at least to the point where it is not a mechanical issue?

I guess I'm just biased lol.
I was at the dealer on the weekend waiting for my test drive in the off road so I can order it. ASked about the warranty I am now considering taking the extended just because of these issues I want to be covered incase something does happen. Talked about what voids what etc
They tried selling me on the platinum package because it gets service included. I fully told them "with all respect I have a mechanic I trust and who has fixed numerous things for me that dealers told me was fine, I trust him more than you [dealer]"

VW used to give me such a run around when my car was under warranty I gave up fighting with them and missing work to get them to fix shit. It cost me less to just pay my mechanic to fix it properly the first time and not need to miss work over and over again. Plus with my mechanic he's flexible, there late on wednesdays so small stuff I can do after work. If its a big job that will take a full day sometime's he'll even lend me his personal vehicle for the day at no charge or get me a cheap $20 rental for the day.

Hell one of the reasons I decided on tacoma over my other options was because my mechanic told me he hasn't worked on a fiat diesel and has no concern to learn as he has more than enough work as it is. (I was thinking eco diesel ram) He's had subaru's and toyotas and one of his other mechanics at the shop has a 2nd gen taco.
Some people would just find a new mechanic, at this point with the relationship and trust I have with my mechanic no thanks. took me a while to find someone this good that I can trust to me that's worth a lot.

any problems I'll obviously fix under warranty, but when it comes to general maintenance like oil changes etc, I'll be going to my mechanic. His shop is down the street from the dealer anyways lol.

ya, but many have checked it lol

I'm starting to think more and more that it's just some harmonic issue. Not an actual mechanic issue.

I have a 2017 SR5 and it does the same thing! I thought nothing of it and my gut reaction was literally what you said (window down, wind, aerodynamics, etc.).
