NW WA BS Thread (Whatcom, Skagit, Island counties)

Can't imagine full size rigs in there, but I only viewed it on YouTube. I have second thoughts about taking my truck in there. Any other areas or camping places you're familiar with, and feel like exploring sometime soon?

 

I'm in Oak Harbor until Feb 28th! Anyone know of any easy off road "training" areas? Doesn't have to be a long trail, just something to practice with different aspects like climbing, mud, etc... My off road xp is mainly sand.

 

To my knowledge there really aren't a whole lot of good spots in whatcom county to really test your 4x4 skills. I think your best bet is to either head to a ORV park down south, or go up to BC where there are plenty of 4x4 trails.

That being said I'm always down to explore. I'm unfortunately busy a lot of the time but still I love getting out in my Tacoma any chance I get.

 

I'm leaving for two weeks for work but I'm down after that!

 

I'm seriously just waiting for anyone else who has a direction to go. I'm foreign here and am looking to be shown good places to froad and camp. Baker Forest, North Cascades, Snoqualmie, Wenatchee. All national forests with dispersed camping. Hate going out alone but am planning on taking the Twin Lakes drive in N. Cascades and finding a place to sleep in my truck.

 

Twin lakes road is great. You'll definitely enjoy that one. I just noticed that you don't have a 4x4 so you'd probably want to stick to the forest service roads. Another forest road system worth checking out is off of North Fork Road. Go down the Mt. Baker Highway and turn right on Mosquito Lake road, take that for a minute or two and as soon as you cross the river take a left on North Fork Road. This will eventually turn into a gravel road. There are lots of good spots to explore out there including a big gravel pit.

I'm in Bham and the girlfriend just left town for a few weeks so I'm free to head out and explore on the weekends if you plan a trip and want company.

 

If I head out I'll get a hold of you! Have fun on those trails. If the weather is right there are some nice views to be had.

 

Friday October 7-9

Planning to run Section 9 of the Backcountry Discovery Route in the North Cascades. I plan to head east over Highway 20 Friday evening and begin the trail half way through section 8 where it intersects with highway 20. Ill camp on the trail that night.

Saturday will be heading north to cover as much distance as I can, and will camp early Saturday night, and will finish it Sunday and head home.

Or a single day trip/over nighter that Saturday would be cool too.

 

How about Saturday October 15th? I think Twin Lakes would be an awesome spot to go. If the snow levels drops by then we can go to plan B. Great campsites by the lake, bonfire pits.

Also Sunday Oct 9th works for a day trip if anyone wants to go then.

 

I'm open to Twin lakes, I just wish it had longer trails, and More challenging. But yeah I'm down.

I have training in Seattle on Saturday and don't know if I'll be back by Sunday, but if I am ill PM you. Where are you thinking?

 

I'm pretty flexible. For Sunday the 9th we could try one of the other roads like the North Fork also. If we can get some other members together for October 15th, that could be pretty fun at Twin Lakes. The road is steep but not really challenging, so good for people of all skill levels. Plus those that have never been there its incredibly scenic.

 

I can do this coming weekend, but I will be in the tri-cities the weekend of the 14th-16th. Just did a trip with some guys from NW Overland and had a blast up at Stampede Pass!
