Water Leak into rear part of Cab

The carpet is wet (puddle) by drivers side rear passenger door in my truck, right around the plastic guard on the sill, doesn't seem to happen when parked downhill.

I've had the truck for a year but just noticed it this fall, truck did smell somewhat musty when i bought it, my bad.

I replaced the door seal (the old one looked ok), the door seems to close normally/hinges still feel tight. I've been searching this forum (and some others) and have seen some people with this problem but no posts regarding their resolution. I'm about to take the back seat out and have my wife hose down the truck and hopefully i can see where its coming from.

I did see some post somewhere that said to check for rubber plugs missing from the bottom of the door, i didn't see any rubber plugs on the bottom of either door.

This sucks,I really like this truck otherwise, any help or advice would be really appreciated.

 

I got the same problem man! and never found were it was coming from, I would love to find the fix to this problem.

 

if its a 1st gen theres a grommet on the back of the cab by the bed, possibly going down from that to the lowest portion?

 

There is a plastic sheet inside the door that is there to direct water down and out the small holes at the bottom of the door. Sometimes the plastic sheet gets installed improperly or is otherwise disturbed, and the water goes the wrong way. This happened to me years ago.

 

I'm getting a similar water leak. When I bought the truck used (an '06) there was a small amount of water on the passenger side rear seat (ext cab) after spraying it when a hose. When it rains, I get small droplets that drip down from near the rear window on the passenger side, but didn't think much of it til now.

With all this rain overnight, I the carpet in the back on the passenger side is wet now. Not soaked, but definitely wet.

Maybe the weather stripping has gone bad? I'm close to peeling it back, silicon sealing it, and seeing if that'll solve it. Anyone else have the problem?

I saw my dealer repair a truck, probably 08 or 09. They said the cab seal is behind the bed. Sealant must've not covered the gap. They had to remove the bed, re-seal the bead and re attach the bed.

 

I have been wondering the same thing!!! Every time it rains I have this problem!!

 

i have a 01 ext cab and my driver side floorboard and rear drivers side floorboard get very wet after a rain. idk why either.it pisses me off though

 

like fireturk said, my guess would be the grommets. go under the truck and look at the back of the cab and you should see two rubber grommets within easy reach. If you never remove these (which id guess you havent if you dont know where they are), try putting silicon around them. They should be in the very corner of the back of the cab on the floor. My guess is that they are to drain the cab in the event of an interior flood.

One of mine is off to have some cables run through and I haven't seen any leakage but then again I havent seen rain in months. just snow.

i also have a reg cab but I assume its the same for doubles and xtras

 

This was it exactly! The bottom portion adhesive failed allowing water do drain down the inner panel into the cab. Thanks for the advice! So what adhesive would you recomend for this, i'm kinda thinking a fat bead of 3M weatherstrip adhesive might work. I'm going to replace the entire sheet and make some sort of flap on the inside that goes on the inside of the door frame as another barrier.

 

Im ganna have to find out if mine has the same problem... I always get water on the inside, right were the door sill is.

 

shit. i had to rip some of that off to install some new speakers. kinda makes me worry with all those exposed wires in there and water just running through

 

So what can you use to re-attach it? what would work best?
I havent ripped mine open yet but I know for sure this is my problem as well. on both rear doors!

 

I wound up using 3M window weld sealant, comes in a 15' roll. It worked great, very sticky. It was recomended by a auto glass place that occasionally has to replace the plastic on inner door panels.

I got it at a auto parts store in town, but its a good one with a lot of autobody stuff (not a autozone, schmucks etc). I just bought some 6mil plastic sheeting from Ace. I also replaced the horizontal dust shield/seal on the window, got it from the dealer. I'm glad i finally solved this on my truck, the musty smell has been going away....

I just took my door panels off yesterday, and I had the same problem. I was able to just stick back on real good, and I hope it solves the problem.
It did rain today and I see a little still on the drivers side, but not sure if thats just left over, or what.

Maybe I should get all new weather stipping and what not for all the doors? maybe it will help?

 

Well after fixing the plastic on the inside of the door. I still have a leak to the inside!
I cant for the life of me find out why! any help appreciated. Could it be the weather striping? thanks in advance for any help!

 

3m To the rescue. So I did the same thing. Ignored the musty smell and bought a truck too. The driver side rear door really leaked badly. Took it to a body shop. Augie adjusted the door. He said that minimized it but it still leaked. So he put this black tarlike stuff by 3m. Super black auto weather strip adhesive. Auto Zone or O'Reilly or Napa. they all got it. You take off the threshold plastic thing at the bottom. Take off the big body door rubber gasket. Take only about half or less. Put the sealant deep in the channel where the metal ridge goes. Just a bead will do. The stuff is messy so gloves and an assistant are advised because the thing is floppy. Put the part back on you just did and pull the other half. Repeat till you go all the way around. At least I did. I probably put too much because I did the passenger side rear just Saturday when it leaked (rained). The side he did stayed dry. So I taped it off to cure. Will test tomorrow. Back to body shop for door adjustment if it leaks. He did recommend changing those gaskets.

Oh I asked about the strip across the top of the door. He said those are just for air noise, not water. So don't mess with or change those. That's all I got; hope it's of some use.
