My brother in law purchased a Expedition Limited in February, sticker price was around $65,000. I suggested a Sequoia to pull their horse trailer. It has left them sitting 3 times , died twice on the highway and for the last month they haven't been able to pull the trailer because it locks the brakes of the trailer when you plug it in. The dealer can't get a part to fix it until November. Ford Corporate says too bad. That's why I stay away from Fords.

 

I feel like it wouldn't be the off road legend it used to be. Would just be a mall crawler like new land rovers and land cruisers

I drove a ford ranger at work and it give me plenty of trouble. i also owned a bronco II it did all right on the highway but would heat up if you made it pull in mud.

 

Once everyone gets the diesel with the low end torque then everyone will start complaining where the mid and top end range is at. Car companies are out to build vehicles for the masses not the enthusiast that want both mpg and power. Toyota builds reliable engines so they are never going to top out the capacity of the engine out put like ford with their 3.5L ecoboost. The V8 are historic and will be long gone until new engine tech can bring them back for some fuel economy reasons.

You priced out a Colorado z71 4x4 midnight package... what does it have that comes close to a Tacoma in off road capabilities? As far as Toyota cares the Tacoma is marketed as an off road vehicle for the weekend warrior. What kind of aftermarket parts can you get for a Colorado compared to a Tacoma?

The idea of a diesel Tacoma gives me chills but then you have to realize its an IDEA. In reality it would cost Toyota a lot to get the diesel Tacoma into the US market and even then its competing against the gasoline Tacoma along with everyone else on the market. Also another point food for thought do we (USA) have the same driving habits like other countries that have the diesel Toyota. Can the diesel truck handle the everyday acceleration of interstate ramp entrance and driving constant 80-85 mph.

My ford ranger 4x4 was incredibly reliable. That being said a 5.0 f150 would be nice. A Sierra as well but they are priced a bit higher.

 

If they were so good, why did you need to buy a new one every year or every other year?

I agree with thinking they will be high priced . The thing to worry about is they will be first year products just like the 16 Tacoma . The Tacoma has some problems but I think the a new Ranger will have as many or more than the Tacoma for the first couple years .

 

The ranger is overseas for awhile now. Hopefully they don't change much because it's a nice ass truck

Absolutely, if the hp and torque numbers are even close to what the diesel Colorado has, it would not only go 80-85 mph, but it would hold the gear without dropping to a lower gear on any grade that you can go 80-85 mph on. It would have no problem on an interstate ramp entrance, these are not the diesels of the 80s. A lot has to do with gearing and taking advantage of the torque range. My Jetta tdi has the torque down low, but at 80 mph I am only running at about 2100 rpm in 6th gear. Yes there is more cost associated with diesel, but I bet there are a lot people who are willing to pay that difference for the benefits, enough that Toyota should have it as an option. The Colorado is not as versitile when it comes to off road compared to the taco, but the redesigned frontier Cummins...with all that low end torque off road...defiently could be. But will still be uglier then the Taco....and only be automatic...

 

Yes but for one thing , the engines used over there cannot pass the epa over here. It has always ticked me off that the engines get WAY better fuel mileage over there as compared to here .
If they have to come up with a new engine alone it will take years to be bug free , if ever .
Just to get ones self angry , look up Ford,Toyota and Chevy in Europe and check the specs for the MPG on the offerings in Europe. It makes one wonder WTF !

 

I doubt there will be a ton of issues with the ranger. If I had to guess, the flagship US market engine will be 2.3 EB I4 from the mustang or the 2.7 EB V6 mated to the new 10 speed trans going into the F-150.

 

That is only because the U.S (California) has such high EPA emission standards way higher those countries overseas. More than likely, we will never see any vehicle that is in the same config as one overseas.
