There may be some validity to his statement. I would not purchase expecting MPG gains to "recoup what you spent", but if this is true, then NO aftermarket intake would provide better MPG's and that is just not the case.

With the exception of an open intake, there are no aftermarket intakes that provide added cool air volume from the fender well.

I'm not looking for better mpg anyway. Of course the stock air box is more than adequate to provide the flow of air needed for grandpa'ing around at 1500rpm. But if I can gain even a little bottom end power when I need it with this mod then it's worth it.

My claims with this kit have alway focused on the HP gains, it's been kit users that started claiming slight mpg gains so I've just been going with it.

Although after lifting my tundra and installing 37" tires I lost a ton of mpg but after I did the mod I've for sure gained some back.

I'm interested in seeing any real data proving any intake provides better mpg. What do you got?

I honestly don't see any way to provide data like this as we all know it is dependent on so many things. I can scour the internet with people's feedback that MPG's improve, but you could just refute that. Just as you cannot provide that same info that NO intake has ever increased MPG's.

What I did provide was a study using 3 different standardized tests done on 3 different vehicles. No mpg loss with extremely restricted filters doesn't support better mpg with less restriction.

That information is stronger than any I've seen claiming better mpg. K&N makes no claims either.

"It is possible that there may be some isolated operating conditions under which the fuel economy may be more susceptible to a clogged air filter. However, such operating conditions are not likely to be consistent from vehicle to vehicle. The three driving cycles used here are representative of a wide range of driving conditions, as described in Sect. 1"

They didn't rule it out which is prudent, but they didn't give any reason why.

Cool, so I can go 100k without changing my filter. Been getting scammed all these years. Just knock the big pieces out and keep driving

@worthywads give it a rest. If you don't want to partake in this, that is your choice, but don't derail the thread just because of some agenda that you feel is necessary.

Don't get me wrong, there is some great and useful information in there, and thanks for posting it. Interesting read although I didn't go through all of it, but the conclusion they came to is not the same as you are trying to make. I am not arguing the validity of their test, rather your conclusion that since for these vehicles (newest tested was 10 years old) it did not noticeably affect MPG, therefore no amount of restriction OR INCREASE will have the same effect is NOT PROVEN.

Like I said, great info and I appreciate the discussion. Hell I won't be able to provide an accurate MPG difference since the season is changing

Unlike the haters, my truck has this mod on it. Along with lift, wheels, tires, sliders, armor, etc. so my fuel mileage sucks.

I gained 0.2 minimum across all my driving routes. To and from work is only 2 miles with 14 trafffic lights. So I'm used to single digit MPG. Highway i went from 16.5-18.0 during my last test. Same loop, same weather, same tire pressure, same weight.

Serious question. If this is better, why wasn't it originally engineered into the truck?

33's and 3" lift are better too, why doesn't it have them stock?

Let's say it was going to be a dual intake design. Someone comes by and says if we go to one intake tube, power is only reduced by 5 percent (already going to increase by 42hp in 2016 or they can tune to replace that loss), but they save $3 per truck. I hear they are increasing the Mexico plant capacity to 160,000 a year. $$

I think it's probably gas mileage mainly. They can tweak little things to help mpg and restrict engine power to appease the epa gods. Plus the TRD intake sales are good money, for something you already have, and all it had to do is increase power by 5-10 hp and people will drop $400 for a plastic bucket.
