Interest in AFE Group Buy????

I thought computers were programmed by humans. If I knew my truck had artificial intelligence I would have been expecting a lot more from it.

 

Not AI, but the auto's adjust shift points and other key functions based on your driving style.

 

You both have auto's right? Seems interesting that you saw an initial drop while my manual didn't. Do both of you have the secondary air filter removed? Either of you remove it just before switching to the AFE?

Just curious if the engine is suddenly getting a lot more air, generating more HP, and you're not compensating by using less skinny pedal.

 

auto, secondary air filter removed b/4 I got the new AFE drop in.
I'm not driving any different. My daily drive is the same, 20 mins at 65MPH cruise control then 20 mins at 75 MPH cruise control.

 

Yes, on demand though. Not learned, remembered, and retained for future use. It's a computer, not a brain. The computer was programmed what to do for the different air,fuel, load, and throttle combinations that it will be presented with.

The computer does not 'know' what is best, it reacts with what it was programmed is best. Case in point, you can change the programming by swapping out chips for most vehicles. You can get performance chips, or economy chips. The computers didn't learn these features. It was told them.

You're talking about semantics. You know exactly what he meant by "learn". Will you go through another lengthy explanation when someone says they "ran" over to the local gas station when clearly they didn't actually run but drove?

No, read his earlier statements. He really believes the computer has some sort of AI. It is just programmed to do what a human tells it to do, and reacts accordingly.

 

So what you're saying is a human programmed all the 100's (1,000's? millions?) of data points the ECU uses to adjust shift points, amount of fuel to inject, valve timing, and all other things it adjust for every single rpm between zero and redline cut off? For every single individual mpg increase from zero to the fuel cut off around 114 or 120mph? For every possible amount of air between sea level and high elevation? For all octanes of gas from 85 to 93?

I find it more plausible that a human simply programmed in calculations and formulas for the ECU to use to gain the most efficient combination based on current conditions. To me, that's a little more than a dumb machine simply following instructions. Your computer does exactly what it's told to do. It boots up exactly the same, doing the exact same things every time until something is changed. These trucks on the other hand can alter behavior based on conditions. It's not AI or "learning" like you learning to use the internet, but it IS "learning" in a sense that it adjusts settings based on certain conditions. Like if you drive like a grandma it will shift sooner. If you have your foot in it all the time flooring it to top speed it will shift later to give you more power. And it remembers these settings until the battery is unhooked or power is cut to the ECU. It doesn't just adjust for 10 minutes because you're going up a hill at the moment, and goes back to "normal" down the other side or when you turn the engine off.

I don't recall him ever using the word "AI" in his post.

I just filled up yesterday, so for me...it'll be a while yet. I also put some techron in, so that might defer the results also.

Honestly - Each situation is different and if people have complaints or gripes about the data your posting.....that's their problem. Not yours....

The aftermarket one (Fram?) I replaced the AFE with looked horrible after only 2 months.

 

i know i got in way late on the gb for the filter....but then again i traded my 06 for an 04........so, where is the cheapest place now that ya'll have seen to get the afe pro dry s filter?? im gonna get one for my 3.4 v6, and i also gotta get one for the wife's 02 honda accord!!

hey man.....a cai is a "cold air intake"....which has the open filter box and filter. on the 4.0 motors........all you really need is to remove the secondary air filter and install an afe pro dry s filter in place of the stock filter. better mileage and possibly a bit more power. a cai only gives you power in the higher rpm's, which is kinda pointless if you are trying to save at the pump.

 

Not to mention all the CAI's I've seen are $250-$400 when the AFE Pro Dry drop in filter is $50-$70.
