I read the manual last night and I can't figure it out and didn't see that it was even a possibility unless I manually put in the address - and then only have room for 100 names.

I have imported my address book from my iphone to my tacoma (2016 TRD w/ Premium sound and Nav) and would like to have directions to an address display on my navigation. I can see phone numbers, so can't see that it is that complex to import that address as well for turn-by-turn directions.

Seems a bit redundant to have to use my iphone for this feature. Yes, I can type it in or say it to the system to make it work, but the information is already on my phone in google contacts.

Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks,
    Brian

Not that I'm aware of, pretty dumb I know. Wish they would just implement Apple car play and Android Auto. Hate that you have to be completely stopped in order it enter an address, especially if you have a passenger who can enter it in.

I thought I read you could use the voice command to tell it where to go while driving.

Not sure, haven't tried it. I'll have to try it and see how well it hears and interprets voice commands.

Well I tried the voice command to see if you can tell navigation where to go. Turns out you have to have preset destinations in order for it to work. You cannot just give it an address. Really sucks having to stop and enter in a address. Come on toyota just give us apple car play and Android Auto.

I've done it before while driving...I think there is some kind of prompt you can give the voice command to "navigate to an address" or something like that. Then, it will ask you to give it the address...without the zip code.

I have the Nav + JBL package. (Not sure if that makes a difference)

Another option is aftermarket...it will open up all restrictions of the head unit even while vehicle is in motion.

Here are their installation instructions (for the iPhone product, but same instructions apply):

In the video, he's still using the phone to control input. Is there anyway to use the dash touchscreen as input?

Is a similar setup available for android?

From what I understand, there is no way to use the dash touchscreen to control things on the phone. There are two options with the kit:
    1) it will open up all available touchscreen commands from the Entune system while vehicle is in motion. Previous greyed out options on the Entune system while car is moving will be opened up
    2) You can mirror your phone to the screen. The only way to control the phone is through the phone.

From what I researched, it does look like they have an android version, but not with the newest connectors. You can contact Beat Sonic directly to find out.

Not sure if this helps any but I found the Voice recognition button (mouth with waves) and it's software shitty for recognizing commands. Even after I "trained it" it can't recognize simple commands. But if I press and hold the Phone pick up button SIRI pops up and she and I can have a convo like normal. There's a special term for this protocol, I can't think of it right now but it's in the manual. Can't text from voice with the mouth/waves button but I can send a text by dictating it to SIRI using the Phone pick up button. Just press and hold until you hear the SIRI prompt.

I haven't tried navigating while driving with the same function.

2nd Gen was crap for giving voice command for navigation, IMO. 3rd Gen I've used a couple times with success on first try both times, no issue whatsoever.

So you can give it a address while driving? I've tried to but it says it can only understand previous destinations or preset destinations. I don't have an iPhone so Siri hands free is not an option.

Yes, press the voice command button. A list of commands appear on the screen, believe the option is "directions to an address", I may be wrong on that but it's something similar. Say address, street, city, state (province for me) and it will then calculate route and begin navigating to where you want to go. Be clear when you say it. Before using it use the voice learn so it can recognize your voice if you have an accent.

tha idea of mirroring for iPhone looks like a great one but not the price so much, i'll just stay without it for now. i'm gonna try the voice command option as well. i've only had my Tacoma for a week i'm still trying to figure everything out

Congrats on the new truck. I've had mine for almost a year and I'm still learning new things. Great info on TW, just ask there are always helpful people here. Check out "Tips and Tricks" in the sticky threads at the top of the 3Rd Gen forum, tons of great info.

I tried it again this morning, so after pushing the button say "navigation" then "I need to find an address". It will then prompt you to say and address and will ask if what it heard is correct. If it is, say "yes", navigation will start after that.
