I'm testing that now. Big pieces don't restrict much.

 

I'm sharing the real studies I've seen. They dispell bad conventional wisdom that a less restrictive intake increases mpg. Hardly an agenda, just real information.

It's not true that making more power but not using it equals better mpg.

And 2 straws sounds good but doesn't reflect part throttle.

 

So if they didn't test the aftermarket modifications, how does that study apply to this discussion? We are discussing our feelings and experiences of the before and after of this modification of the factory system from G Tek; in terms of both power and mpg.

 

The 10 year point speculates that fuel/air control systems have gotten worse in the last 10 years. I bet they are better.

I conclude INCREASE has the same effect. No reason to speculate it wouldn't with closed loop feedback fuel control.

 

power and mph are not the same thing. A clogged filter might not effect mpg, but that reduced air flow might hurt horsepower and torque. I'm looking for a performance mod. Not to make our overly mpg based truck even more like a prius. I expect a decrease in mpg if it gives an increase in performance, mainly because I'll be driving it harder. At low speed and going easy, I would expect no change in mpg because 1500 rpm doesn't require as much air as 4500 and the stock air box has more than enough ability to run I small amount of air. Your point in this thread is off topic

 

Accept that people here are claiming increased mpg.

You agree that you wouldn't expect a change in mpg.

I'll note that the first post linked to a report that claimed average 2-3 mpg improvement.

 

That report was on a 5.7L V8 with a supercharger. Your argument is invalid.

Here is a shot of the throttle body. Way smaller than the stock hole into the stock air box.

No need for a second straw when the first straw is bigger than the wide open throttle plate, and many times larger than the typical 20-30% opening at part throttle cruising down the road.

And I'd agree that that could increase HP. MPG not. Way better than punching a second hole in the stock box.

 

So enough of hijacking this thread? You don't even own a 3rd gen do you? We all get what you are saying. Just let us have our fun. We need this extra engine noise to drown out our LCA and diff howl since our entune stereo keeps cutting out on our way to the dealer to get our transmission updated and fluids checked

I don't go to the 3rd generation, I go to the New Posts, nothing about this is 3rd generation exclusive.

Absolutely not true... There are more physics involved here than just hole sizes. Try volume/velocity for one... You allow it more and it will take more. How do you know the tb is taking all it wants or needs???
