Just got back from toyota dealer, had them look at issues with my truck.

took them an hour, but they eventually told me that my timing belt/chain cover is leaking (under warranty though), but my serpentine idler pulley needs to be replaced... and that is not under the powertrain warranty.. i asked why, and they said cause it is on the outside of the engine...

IMO its still part of the engine and drivetrain, idk what they are thinking, but luckily they wont charge me labor if they do both at the same time, so im looking at about 170 dollars... not bad but still upsetting...

    opinions please?

    truck has about 55000 miles

How is the serpentine belt part of the powertrain? I think the belts and pulley's fall under the "normal wear items". Belts, hoses, brakes, tires...Are the tires covered under the powertrain warranty?

I was a warranty admin for Navistar, and we have a 5 year on the motor but not attaching accessories i.e fan clutch, alternator, starter, water pump(is sketchy), idlers...so it sounds about right. Granted its bull, but sounds right

Powertrain......the sales guy explained it very simple....any part that touches oil.

I would go to/call another dealerships parts department and find out how much the idler pulley is just to check. $170 sound outrageously high to me.
