That is amazing. I'm not a big camper, but I'd certainly want to go more often if I had one of those.

    That's awesome.

I have an old tent I think I might cut apart and try my hand at this. I'd want it to be able to just collapse when you shut the tonneau cover. How nice would that be to have an instant up tent, just open the tonneau cover!

    Same here...!!

This is actually very interesting. In 2008' I drew up plans to MFG an almost identical tent for my own use. (2007 Tacoma, Pre-runner, 4-door, short bed) The differences were, I had larger zipper windows, and I had designed a frame/support structure that extended the tent away from the bed cap, putting the rear of the tent more inline with the rear of the tailgate, with the tailgate in the lowered position. The extension provides a little more room in the tent and additional support for the bed cap to insure it remains in the up position.

I fly hang gliders and was spending weekends flying remote locations. I felt this was an easier solution than setting up a tent every weekend. My flying slowed when I damaged my knee, but now I have a Lab Pup and want to start camping with him. Maybe I'll pull out my drawings and finish the project.

When we used to go camping, my buddy always slept under his tonneau, he made a wood frame and put house window screen on it for his tailgate opening.

Got a quote today for $1800 from a local awning manufacturing shop. I told the guy he was out of his mind. He then asked how much I would like to pay, I have not yet responded.

I'd be interested something one that would work with an ARE topper/shortbed. since we are a bit taller than 4'9......

i bet this thing would be pretty expensive if someone did mass produce it. i would say use somthing like this with a camper shell. that way you could drop the tailgate for the extra room and it would be less material. id just stay with the velcro thing also. but i want one of these..lol

sure is! you'd get a little more room though if the guy had done it on a regular bed, not the short one. i wonder how the space is inside with the 5ft bed?

ha! i 4got all about that song. and i thought i was the only one who knew that song. i used to have a Joe Diffie cassette or cd with that song on there.

Definitely waiting on any news/updates whether this could be made, or if the guy did a write up on the whole thing, start to finish?
