What kind of oil?

    Thanks everyone for all the replies. I'm glad to see that this isn't looking like it's gonna be as complicated as when I was trying to choose an oil for my wrx. Subaru oil specs for the fa20 seem to leave only a few suitable choices (or what everyone considers suitable). I'd like to stick with somthing I could just get local at Walmart or wherever. I know they sell royal purple and obviously a ton of others.

    Limited wheels, extra rope hooks in bed.
    I had 251,000 miles on my last Tacoma and changed the oil every 5,000.

    Never ever changed the oil drain plug gasket.

    Just snug it.

    Toyota filters work great, always used them every time.

    Plus your local Walmart sells excellent synthetic oils...every Walmart.

    First 2 years I'll let Toyota do the free changes. After that probably AMSOIL

    chrome valve stems covers
    I put Amsoil signature in at 5000 miles. Didn't want to go to 10000 miles with the original oil due to break in of the engine.

    This is what I did in my 1st gen for years. Plan on doing in in my 3rd gen
