Resetting the Computer

with my '99 Tacoma, we would reset the computer (disconnect the bettery terminal) for an hour or so when certain mods were done (i.e. changing the intake). As I just changed to the Afe Pro dryS, I am wondering why some have said there is no need to reset the computer. Have there been changes?
I will probably just reset mine (nothing better to do today), and as the last three tanks of gas showed actually a decrease in MPG...

Any input?

 

i know with the new engines the comp re programs it self everytime after a cold start. should be all good and programed by the 5th mile or so of driving

 

cant really reset the computer in the newer tacomas by unhooking the battery cable. basically, with the new filter, you will have to go thru a few tanks of gas and let the computer relearn the new air flow, then you'll start seeing an increase.

Also.. Do we have "inconclusive or conclusive" results with the removing of 2nd filter on the 4.0L?

 

it'll help, but its gonna take a couple of tanks to notice improvement!! and i dont blame ya.......its hot as hell outside, and csi reruns are awesome!!
