Should I give my dealer a second chance?

I am very upset with my dealer(Pat Lobb's Toyota of McKinney, Texas) and I am so upset with my service i don't know how I want to proceed. Sorry if this is a bit wordy.

I call the service department where i bought my truck 2 months ago to set up my 5k service and have my transmission fluid checked due to a minor slip from 3rd-4th when it shifts around 25 mph under very light acceleration when the transmission is cold. This usually only occurs once when the car has been sitting for at least 1-2 hours on the time shifting. They told me there's a TSB(which i knew about) and i informed them that the TSB does not cover the issue i am having and i do not have any issues related to the TSB. The service rep taking in my car in said ok and that a transmission check would take a long time. I told him that's fine I have all day and if the tech cant cause the slip i would drive the truck and see if i could make it happen since i know the exact circumstance that will show the slip from 3rd-4th. After 3 1/2 hrs the rep calls me and tells me the tech didn't experience the slip but they went ahead and did the TSB (That i specifically told them would not fix the slip i was experiencing) and that should fix the issue. 30 minutes later (Its now been 4 hrs that they have had the truck) I spoke to the Service manager as i was waiting to get my truck back and he fed me a bunch of BS stating that the TSB is the first step they had to take to see if it would fix the issue before they could go farther and the transmission needs to be cool enough to perform it. I asked him how after 4 hrs that there had not been enough time to let the transmission cool and perform the service that i requested. Now he claims its too hot outside "This is Texas"... I about lost my shit at this point.

I get home and let my truck sit for a few hours and take it for a test drive to see if the TSB "Fixed" the issue that it wasn't designed to fix. Well it was no surprise that right on time as usual it shifts out of 3rd and slips going into 4th.

So now i cant decide if I can or should give the dealer a second chance at the repair. I don't know that i can trust them and if i do i feel like i will need to be with teh truck the entire time to watch everything they do because they have already shown me they dont know how to diagnose a vehicle or follow instructions from the owner or the instructions laid out on the TSB.

Would you give them another chance?

Should I just stay away from the idiots(Is that even possible with a dealer service center anywhere?) and go to another service center?

Should i file a complaint with Corporate about the dealer?

Thanks for any input and for reading my rant.
(I deleted a lot of what i originally wrote in this because it was filling up with nothing but me bitching about my interaction with this dealer. It would have been twice as long with a lot of cussing otherwise)

Exactly why I am hesitant to got back. I'm just afraid that there are no "good" dealer service centers near me. I'd like to hope that the Manager I spoke to today will make an effort to save face for the poor service by making sure I am taken care of properly and the services that i request are performed as requested.

Where are you located? Are you close-ish to Toyota of Plano?

It's not uncommon for people to have to leave their trucks overnight for the transmission temp to reach the right point to where it can be checked.

And how did you know the TSB wasn't going to fix it? Do you know more about these trucks than the guys in the service department? (Educate me.)

They'v got a protocol to follow. To me, that would be the logical thing to do first.

Call 'em up, tell it's still slipping. Make another appointment.

I'm just learning about these trucks too and definitely no expert but it is my understanding the TSB you are referring to pertains exactly to the problem you describe. What is your view on the TSB ?

Same problem with mine going from 3rd to 4th gear when cold. Opened a case with Toyota Corp. Took my truck back numerous times with the same scripted answer that they could not replicate problem. Getting no where with dealership or Toyota. Done experiment on my own by backing my truck into my driveway and leaving first thing in the a.m. by pulling out forward onto the highway and it has not slipped yet. Try this and see what happens. May not be the reason mine has not slipped but try it and see if this helps. At this point I was willing to try anything..

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I'd grease the driveshaft u joints and see if that doesn't tighten it up a bit. Leave it overnight with them if you have to. Maybe they do need cold fluid to properly check the level. I don't know. Good luck

    +1.

I've got no love for dealers of any sort, but doing the TSB in this case is the first logical step.

They most likely had to do the tsb as first part of diagnosis. As far as the truck cooling down for them to check the fluid, I can believe it, as I had to wait 6 hours for it to cool down and the dealership to be able to check the tranny fluid manually. I would try them again.

The Plano dealer is fairly close along with the Richardson location.

Had they requested I could have and would have dropped off the truck. I also would have sat at the dealer as long as necessary for the service I requested.
That's sucks, I would have lost it if that happened to my wheels.

I read the TSB that clearly states what it is meant to correct and when to perform the service. It was never made to fix slipping between 3rd and 4th. I guess its too hard for anyone at the dealer to read the directions that Toyota provided. Another member posted the TSB from Toyota here. It is meant to fix delayed Park to Drive or reverse to park engagement, harsh shifts from 1st and 2nd along with issues when an upshift delay with cruise control.

I back in my driveway all the time. I have the slip before i get 100yds down the street. Is your driveway angled up/down. I notice it less often when the truck is parked facing downhill
Yes this is the TSB they performed.

Yes the tranny fluid must be below 95 degrees. I told them i had all day and was there at 8:30 in the morning. I would have waited until they closed if thats what it took for it to cool down enough for them.

Hmmm, thats not cool if they basically refused. I would either go to the operation manager of that dealership or try elsewhere. The next dealership might be more willing to help, as they would want your business when warranty runs out.

I've never had a dealership piss me off as often as Toyota of Richardson. I used to live a couple miles from ToR and started going to Plano. Much better experience.

Is there anyone in particular that you deal with at Toyota of Plano? The more i think the more i feel like I should find a better service center. I have never experienced such poor service for anything in my life.

Please record the 3-4 slip and send me a link to the video. You may have a failed transmission.
