Hey Taco World! I am trying to install a power sliding rear window on my 2016 Double Cab Taco, thing is the dealer says to do it could be pretty expensive. I got a question for anyone who has a 2017 Double Cab Taco.

IF you have taken apart the black plastic molding behind the backseats and know where the motor is, PLEASE PLEASE tell me. If I know where the motor is placed exactly I think I can install this on my own. The body shop I am going to says it is possible if I just buy the parts from the Dealer. We just need to work out a few details, where the motor is, how thick is the wire that runs to the switch, and if the wire runs along the door sills or above the headliner.

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

The window is changed too, some guy was quoted $900 in parts alone. It's just a power slider...

The window is entirely different. You need new glass installed and the motor. Then you would have to make your own wire harness and a switch. The dealer is correct it's going to be very expensive

    Thanks guys!
I did some more digging on the site and I think I found some alternatives to install a power slider that is MUCH more cost effective. Now on to look for that TRD pro grille.

Agreed. It's cool, and I wish I had it, but I'd care a lot more if the entire back glass rolled down.

not entirely true. the existing mods to make the rear window be a power slider are just using rear window motors from other vehicles. there is no reason that you couldn't do the same mods and use the window motor from a tacoma. will it look exactly like the 2017 one when you are done? nope.... you'd have to fab a bracket to slide the window, just like on the other versions of the mod. with that said, the only reason to use a tacoma window motor over any other vehicle's motor would be if it were cheaper, which i doubt it is.

I had a guy with a '17 next to my '16 and the windows were completely different. Both the windows itself and the way it seals on the cab is different in shape and size.

If they want to hack up and try to customize a 16 window to make a power sliding window kit let them. Obviously they are too dumb to realize you can get an aftermarket power slider half the price and install it yourself with a lot less hassle

people have been doing it for years successfully... looking at the parts for the benwa version of the mod is less than $200. show me an "after market power slider" for $100.

Well good for them. I bought a 17 because I wanted a factory power slider. An aftermarket comes with new glass, the way it should be. If someone wants to hack together a cheap mod then more power to them
