I believe the reasoning for the higher octane (91 ocatane recommended in manual) is because any lower "could" develope knocks and pings. but they also state 87 is acceptable.

Yes. They had them at my dealership. It's pretty cool to compare the '08 and '09 books together (especially the new colors). That blindspot is crazy, and I think the suicide back doors would get real old, but the FJ does look good. With gas prices going up and demand for trucks/SUVs going down, no "rumor" would suprise me... well, unless they stopped making Tacomas!

I love my FJ. Granted the blind spots take a little getting used to but you learn to use your mirrors and pay attention to who is around more than with a Tacoma. I also loved my '05 Tacoma but... The FJ is just badass, a strong build on it, fully boxed frame (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the 2005+ Tacoma's have one), VSC, ATRAC and a rear diff locker, aftermarket parts (ARB, Demello, WARN, etc) no carpet (clean up is a cake walk with a wet sponge) stock articulation, spare tire easy access.

The FJ has the same exact engine and transmission setup as the Tacomas so premium gas isn't really needed (says required but will probably run on reg I just choose not to).

Th eonly thing I miss is the bed and that is why I'm considering a 2001-2004 Tacoma within a year or 2 as a second vehicle.

Yeah. I never put premium in my FJ. You just lose some power. The computer bumps the timing down.

    What Mods!
My buddy was telling me a little info on how it works if you dont put premium this is what he said.
there is a knock sensor that is tracked by your computer. If you use a lower octane fuel it will burn before full compression and at a lower temperature causing an engine knock or ping, as this is sensed by the computer it will retard the ignition timing back enough to let the cylender top out before igniting the plug to compensate. With the use of the higher octan it will do the opposite, it will advance the timing.

I've heard the same thing... I'm guessing that the FJ weighs more, so the premium might be needed to get decent gas mileage... They do look good, though.:)

I traded my 04 Tacoma 4x4 xtra cab for an 07 FJ 4x4. The FJ is sweet, but I am beginning to miss my truck bed. In the FJ, you get used to the blind spots.

I looked at FJ's before buying my Tacoma. Yes, the blind spot is humongous. However, I bought my Tacoma last August, when I was in the middle of working on having a child (is it REALLY work?) so it was a no brainer for me because the FJ was not child seat/kid friendly. Just wasn't going to work. Sure, you could MAKE it work but the Tacoma, with four full doors, is better for me. Now, with the wife 7 months pregnant, I'm glad I went in this direction.
