I put on California registration plates after get a smog check and certificate of weight. What a PITA just to register a truck. Otherwise loving Southern California and retirement. So many fun things to do and such good Mexican food. The drive across country was amazing! The truck performance was excellent with pretty good MPG. Now to catch up on what you guys have been doing to your trucks. Been so busy settling in I haven't had a chance to look at TW

Where I came from in MA you registered as an auto. Only commmercial business with business name on side of vehicle could register as commercial. Don't know about the rest of the country.

Here in southeast Virginia cities personal property registration is based on vehicle weight. Cars and pickups are one fee and larger vehicles such as 3/4 ton trucks are rated commercial. The killer is the property tax. A new 1/2 ton truck may be $800 the 1st year where a new 3/4 ton or heavier will be $1200 to $1500 the 1st year. It is a joke. Does not matter if it is business or personal use. My 2016 Tacoma access cab was $750 for the entire year. My wifes 2016 Ford Escape was $300 for the entire year. Property tax is based on NADA retail values. Registration with DMV is a set $45 to $65 fee roughly. We also only have an annual safety inspection which is $16. No smog checks here (yet) although northern Virginia does have a smog inspection on top of the safety inspection.

I have Geico, best rates I was able to find and I have a $0 deductible for glass. Glass claims also don't make my insurance go up at renewal.

Went to my friend shop and he did a diff breather install. He'll do the front diff & tranny later so he will fab up a bracket for all 3 breathers. Yesterday went to America's tire and put on some GY Duratracs. Next is fabbing up diff cover for the pumpkin the transfer case and the tranny and rock rails. Asked him if he can build me a 20 gal fuel cell where the spare tire is located. He checked it out and could be a possibility. Hopefully he can. No rush I told him. Need protection for my baby for now.

Get the breather above water level via a long hose.

Yeah, it's pricey but it was $252 invoice to have installed at "port" so I went for it when ordering. I'm definitely pleased with my choice. I've been spoiled over the years with various Gentex homelink autodim mirrors.
